  1. Yes, I followed those instructions.
  2. The product is "McAfee Internet Security". It is the most recent version. I had to uninstall and download/reinstall the product about a week and a half ago due to a problem with turning on "Virus Scanning". However, the problem with slow response time was occurring even before I reinstalled.
  3. When I first boot up and bring up a browser, either MIE or Firefox, my PC is very, very slow. This slow response time is connected to McAfee. I do get a message on occasion reading "McAfee Service Host Has Closed" then Windows starts looking for a solution. Once the McAfee Host goes down, my browsers speed up considerably. This is no coincidence. It's consistant. Obviously McAfee is slowing down my response time to the point where I have to initiate a "restart" if it really gets bad. Any ideas or information concerning this situation would be appreciated. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this situation. (I am on Vista Home Version). Thanks !!
  4. I run a full scan with McAfee on occassion. Recently, when I try to run a scan, I receive a box which reads ""An unexpected problem occurred during your scan. Please click OK to go back to the Home Page and then try ...again." This error occurs when I want to start a scan. The scan never initiates. Another thing I noticed -- When I go into McAfee and try to set Real Time Scanning to "On", I can do that but the next time I go into McAfee it is "Off" again. This seems to be a problem others have had in the past. Your Help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I just figuered out how to get rid of the toolbar. You go into Control Panel, click on Programs And Features. Then you pick "Yahoo Toolbar" and Uninstall it. Hope this helps others with a similar situation.
  6. I accidently added the "Yahoo Toolbar" to my MIE-9. I followed the standard intructions for removal. I went to "Tools" then "Manage Add Ons". The list of Add Ons appeared. When I click any other Add On in the list the "disable" button lights up. When I click on "Yahoo Toolbar" the "disable" button does not light up so I am unable to get rid of the toolbar. While on MIE9, I tried clicking on the "X" at the left side of the Yahoo Toolbar. Two choices appear : (1) Hide Yahoo Toolbar temporarily (2) Disable Yahoo Toolbar permanently. I can Hide the toolbar but when I click on the option to permanently disable the toolbar I get a message that says "This action is restricted. Contact your system administrator". So -- Anyone have a solution to my situation ? Thanks !!!
  7. As far as I rememer, I went to the Microsoft Web Site to download MIE9. Perhaps I could download it again ?? Does it matter that I already have it ??
  8. I just dowloaded MIE 9 which replaced my MIE 8. It runs a lot slower than the previous version. When I open MIE 9, I've noticed that, at the top, it reads "optimized for Bing and MSN". Could that be what's causing the slow speed ? If so, is there a way to get rid of that "optimization" or am I stuck with it ? JIM
  9. I don't have the Google toolbar installed. I am using a Gateway Desk Top. And why would this just start happening last Saturday ?
  10. Another interesting thing...... As I mentioned above, Firefox works but MIE8 gives me the 404 error. When I log on to eBay and bring up "My eBay(Summary page)" the page displayed is slightly different in the left column between MIE8 and Firefox. On MIE : The left column reads "Saved Searches" and "Saved Sellers" On Firefox : The left column reads "Searches You Follow" and "Sellers You Follow". The other curious thing : The URL that appears on top is indentical for both !!! How could that happen ? Does eBay determine what you see by what browser you're using ?? I'm sure the fact that Firefox works but MIE8 gives the 404 Error is the key to a solution but I'll be darn if I can figure this out.
  11. I did run a full virus scan via McAfee. Nothing showed up at all. Wouldn't Malware have been detected if it were present ?
  12. I started having something strange happen a few days ago. On a few sites, especially eBay, the page would load and then another page would pop up saying "Page Not Found" "Error 404". I'd hit "back" and get the same results about 4 times -- then the page was fully loaded. (It also happens once when going to Photobucket.) I decided to see if Firefox gave me the same results. It didn't. Rather, a message poped up at the top saying there were "plug ins" trying to load and to click "Install Plug Ins" button. Of course, I didn't install these plug ins. So -- the problem seems to be with MIE 8 / Vista or a combination of the two. It seems to me that Ebay may have loaded something new which is not compatible with MIE 8 (?). Can't be sure. I then decided to copy the links I saw at the top of the error pages. Here are two examples : http://www.google.com/hws/gateway/afe?hl=en&s=http://p.rfihub.com/cm?in&rdr=afe http://www.google.com/hws/gateway/afe?hl=en&s=http://image2.pubmatic.com/AdServer/Pug?vcode&rdr=afe (All the pages that display at the top of the error pages end with "afe".) Perhaps some of you, who are much more knowledgeable than me, may be able to figure out what's going on ? Or perhaps you've seen this type of situation in the past ? THANKS !!!!
