  1. Hi, Lately when I try to rename a document my document folder freezes up. Microsoft website has a HotFix 980382 that's suppose to fix this problem. I went on and requested a copy by giving them my email address. They said it would take about 15 minutes to send it. That was 24 hours ago -- no response !! Can any suggest an alternative fix ?
  2. Hi, I recently have been having a problem with the Delete Dialog Box. When I delete a File or document, the dialog box appears as usual but once it's done it doesn't close. In addition, if I right-click and "close", it still won't exit. The top of the box displays "Cancelling..." The file or doc does get deleted. There's no problem in that regard. I've right-clicked on "Recycle Bin" and unclicked "Display display confirmation dialog" I've also clicked the button for "Do not move files to the recycle bin...". Even that hasn't worked. The dialog box still appears and cannot be closed. Anyone else run into this problem and how to fix it ??
  3. NoelC ---- It looks like you hit on the correct solution. I looked for the Security Update you mentioned for Windows 7. It had to do with Windows kernel-mode drivers for Windows. I found that the same one, KB3139852, was in my list of pending updates. I went ahead and initiated this update. It took quite awhile but did finish. I tried two other updates of various sizes and they finished in a somewhat normal time period. SO -- if you're on Vista, before you apply any other update, install KB3139852. That looks like the solution to a slooooow download. THANKS NOELC !!!
  4. I've waited for up to 45 minutes for a 91KB update. Then I cancelled the update. Size doesn't seem to matter. I've been using Vista for a number of years.
  5. Is Windows Update Agent 3.0 new ? This only started happening.
  6. For the last few days, when I've tried to download a new Windows Update from my list it never seems to finish. The progress meter just keeps on grinding away and never gets to the "Installing" phase. I've never had this problem before. Anybody with any ideas out there ??
  7. Sorry to say that the above link was not helpful.
  8. I read an aritcle on Yahoo about "SpeedFixTool". This product is suppose to clean your PC and make it as if it just came out of the factory. It turns a slow PC into a fast PC. Has anyone tried or familiar with this prduct ? Is it safe ?
  9. I've been looking around at products that claim to clean up your Desktop if you're using Vista. Of course, some are probably very good while others are not that good at all while some are probably totally bogus. Could any one with expert knowledge suggest 2 or 3 of the best and are from 100% legitimate companies to download ? Thanks.
  10. The tasks listed to be executed "At Logon By Any User" : Adobe Acrobat Update Task Hot Start OptinNotification QueueReporting RocketTab SystemSoundService TMM
  11. Lately I've been getting a box which appears and tells me that "gb-installer-core has stopped working". Is there a simple fix for this error ?
  12. When I get to Task Scheduler, what do I do or what should I look for ?
  13. I ran msconfig. There's a lot out there so identifying someting "unusual" isn't easy. Under "Services", it shows me what's running and what's stopped. Task Schduler shows as "running". If I "uclicked" it, would that cause a problem ?
  14. Usually the black box with "taskeng.exe" pops up each time I boot up. My PC is clear of viruses, malware, etc. so that's not the cause. I've looked on line but I'm not entirely clear how to stop the box from appearing. Given that, what is the best way to eliminate, in Vista, this box from appearing ?
  15. Rather than the "portable", I downloaded the "ZIP" version. It is exactly what I'm looking for !! Thanks to all above who helped me out. Jim
  16. I downloaded the "portable" version of PDF-XChange Viewer. I brought up one of my documents which I had previously filled in. One thing --- the document comes up without showing me the fields I previously filled in. However, if I click on a field I had filled in it shows me what I had entered. I looked through the various settings. There must be an option to display the fields I had entered ? If so, how ?
  17. I went to the web site for "PDF-XChange Viewer". For the download, it gives various options. The first option is "Zip Installer" followed by 7 other downloadable options. Is "Zip Installer" the option I should use ?
  18. Hi, The IRS has downloadable forms in which you can fill in the various "boxes" on the form. The color of the test you type into their updatable form is "blue". Is there any way to change the color to "black" ? Jim
  19. I've tried a number of suggestions on "daniweb". So far none have worked.
  20. I did figure out the desktop.ini and changed my settings. In regard to the LAN setting above -- is there a way to "Apply" when I unclick the box ? Or is there a setting I can update ?
  21. Another stange occurance ----- A few days ago two new "Shortcuts" popped up on my PC. They both read "desktop.ini". I checked the properties of each. One is "C:\Users\/Public\Desktop". The "public" one is erroneous since I'm not on a public computer -- it's my home PC.
  22. Not that I'm aware of. However, I just ran a McAfee Scan and got rid of two "Trojans".
  23. Hi, I started having a proble with MIE 9 a few days ago. Whenever I tried to use it it would not connect to any web site. After doing some research, I was able to rectify the situation by going into TOOLS > CONNECTION > LAN SETTINGS. I would then click off "Use a proxy server for your Lan...". The only problem -- there is no "Apply" button. Therefore, everytime I shut down and boot up again I have to go into Tools and "unclick" that box again. Is there another way to keep this setting "unchecked" ? Jim
  24. I had to uninstall and reinstall McAfee a short time ago. The version contains their "On Line Backup". Whenever I boot up, my toolbar shows their flashing icon asking me to configure their "on line backup service". Then it takes about a minute for the regular McAfee Internet Security icon to appear in my toolbar. The "backup" blinking icon remains. It is my understanding that this comes with McAfee now.. If I right-click on the flashing icon, referring to the backup, and click "exit" it really slows my PC down. I don't want to use it and it would be nice to get rid of this annoyance. I fear that I won't be able to do that. Am I correct ? Thanks !!
