  1. On the top right of the Vista start menu there are 5 links: Username, Documents, Pictures, Music, Games. Does anyone know is it possible to change those or add more to them? Thanks
  2. Thanks, I had heard rumors of there being a way to manually install it thats why I posted the question here to see if anyone knew how.
  3. Does anyone know how to get powershell loaded onto Longhorn 6001? Thanks
  4. Thanks, if I take that route I will make the image from the PC it is intended for.
  5. Ok, do you happen to know off hand where to find the Administrators name in the registry? Oh what a fool I am never mind, I will change the administrators name manyally to something weird then do a search for it after the name change. Thanks Fizban2 for setting me on the right track
  6. I decided to not be lazy. Since no one has had this problem I started from square one on my unattended and am adding everything back exactly the same one section at a time until I find what I did that caused this. When I figure it out I will change topic to solved and post the answer here for others who may run into this in the future.
  7. This is why I originally started this thread to find out if there was a way to rename Administrator for safety reasons. I know it can be done manually but would like to do it as part of the unattended. Maybe I am going about this all wrong. Maybe I should ask Nuhi how he did it for the nlite.
  8. Thing is I could have posted the entire unattend file here but hated to waste the space for such a silly little thing. Figured if someone else saw the problem before then I would have an answer.
  9. I have my unattended all working except for one thing. The quicklaunch ends up right next to the clock instead of on the left by start button where it belongs. Anyone else have this problem and have a clue what might have caused this? For anyone with this same problem it was the DoNotCleanTaskBar within the shell setup in the specialize pass I had set to false thinking it would remove everything from the quicklaunch bar and what I got was the the bar in the wrong place. So by leaving that set to its default of false everything worked fine.
  10. The way I got the Administrator account to work was in the OOBe add the shell-setup then add autologon Enabled - True Count - 1 Username - Administrator after the one autologon the administrator account functions like normal.
  11. Thanks I already have it activated, what I am looking for is a way to change the Administrator name during the unattended install. It was possible as an option with nLite for XP but I have no clue how to get it done in Vista. If you change the name during the Install you do not end up with a folder named Administrator but what you get is everything with your name on it.
  12. Thanks for your reply, but that has what to do with unattended?
  13. Thanks Felix, never thought of doing it that way. So simple yet - well lets just say too many dead brain cells here
  14. If your like me you reformat your computer about as often as you change your socks. What I am wondering is how to do is if I create a dvd for a specific computer is it possible to have the installation activated before it is even installed. That is to say in 44 days I buy Vista, can I set up the unattended to use that key to install it already activated so I do not have to deal with doing it each time I redo the computer.
  15. I must say first off thanks to everyone who has contributed here to make life easier for those trying to learn how to do Vista unattended. I have looked through everything here and though I have seen how it is possible to activate the administrator account is there a way to rename it to a custom name instead of Administrator? Thanks
  16. When you think of the movie McFly came from and how it was used by Biff somehow your response seemed fitting. Thanks for making me laugh Nuhi
  17. You know your absolutely right, into the fire I go
  18. Thanks, yes, once the project gets further along where it is a final release I will be attacking Vista with Nuhi's latest MASTERPIECE
  19. Can anyone help? Back in Windows XP there was a file sysoc.inf that we could change to get at hidden installed programs and trim the fat. Is there such a file in Vista and if so what is its name? Thanks
  20. This solution is so easy I could kick myself for not finding it sooner. For this example the user you want to move is named "thisonehere" You must have been logged on at least once with this user name. Logon as Administrator run regedit find profile for this user by navagiting to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList] Under this there will be several sub keys you are looking for the ones with the long string at the end. My administrator looks like this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-3636477636-408199089-4032454623-500 "thisuserhere" is this one HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-3636477636-408199089-4032454623-1005 Hint: Administrator ends with -500 each user created has a number higher last user created has the highest. You can find which one belongs to the user you want by just clicking on them until you see the one with your username in it. So now to the change Inside the correct key you will see ProfileImagePath=c:\Users\thisonehere I want to have my folders located in d:\Stored so I change it to ProfileImagePath=d:\Stored\thisonehere exit regedit Now in windows explorer move the folder thisonehere from c:\Users\thisonehere to d:\Stored\thisonehere Thats it next time you logon as thisonehere your files are now all on D and all shortcuts in Windows Explorer point to that new location. Happy modding....
  21. Marthax There is a registry solution to this problem. I used it in my xp unattended installation to do exactly what you are trying to accomplish. I checked in vista and the entries are still in the same place. You will have to change the entries a bit since the folders are called by different names in vista but here is an example of how I did it. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] "Personal"="D:\\Mine\\My Docs" "My Pictures"="D:\\Mine\\My Docs\\My Pictures" "My Music"="D:\\Mine\\My Docs\\My Music" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths] "Administrator"="D:\\Mine\\My Docs" Happy tweaking Need more help, feel free to pm me and I can send you the actual registry file I used.
  22. Ok, I need a little domain help please. Client Computer: XP Pro SP2 Sally sales person goes to this commputer and logs in no problem its her desk. Joe janitor goes to Sally's desk and tries to login nope he is not user on her computer, still no problem. When Joe's name and password do not work the logon box now switches from "Logon to: This Computer" to "Logon to: DomainName" now we have a problem. Since Joe Janitor is part of the domain he can now get on Sally's computer by using his name and password to logon to the domain. Is there a way to stop XP from letting them do this? Can the logon box for XP on a domain be changed to only allow logon to that workstation? Thanks
  23. Thanks for your reply, I do know of reshack and resedit but I was looking for another program I saw in the forums here that showed all the icons on one scrreen not just one at a time. I will keep searching
  24. About a year ago I saw a program here somewhere that you could use to for example replace icons in shell32.dll. It showed all the icons as pictures on one page. Well I can not remember the name of it and I can not seem to find it here aqnywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks
