I really wanted to get a 512mb card but my budget is lacking so I'll have to stick to a 256mb so I've narrowed it down to 3 cards Sparkle GeForce 8600GT 256MB HDTV/Dual DVI (PCiEx) Jetway GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCiEx) Sparkle GeForce 8600GT 512MB HDTV/Dual DVI (PCiEx) Which is best? Also I really need some advice as to which processor to get, looking at the comparison on the link above the 3ghz core 2 duo seems faster at games but the quad core q6600 seems faster at everything else but slower at games, what should I do I'm really stuck.

Actually I have Windows XP, I should have changed my OS status long ago. Sorry I will look for cards later as I have to rush off to the dentist now

On the website I'm buying from they have 2 nivdia cards I've looked at, a Sparkle GeForce 8500GT 512MB and a XpertVision GeForce 8500GT Super 512MB.

Thanks for the reply and link puntoMX! On the web page you linked to its says the core 2 is better for games and the Quad core is better if you do a lot of encoding. I do a lot of both but after reading and looking at their graph I think I'll go with the Core 2 Duo instead of the quad (even though its only £3 more) I'm going to have to buy another graphics card with the Asus P5K though I'm thinking of this...

I'm currently looking for a new motherboard, I've seen a few Asus and Gigabyte ones online that seem good but I wish to use my two existing hard drives which are IDE and I can't find a recent mobo that has one. Can you help please Thanks EDIT : This is a list of mobos I've looked at and this is the processor.

I'm thinking of upgrading my pc with a new processor. In my local paper it was advertising PC's - some with 'Dual Core' processors and others with 'Core 2 Duo' What is the difference? I thought core 2 duo was the same? Also I was thinking of getting a 3Ghz core 2 duo but a friend says it would be better to get a 2.66ghz core 2. Is this right? Thanks

I didn't check his PSU and I can't get a PSU to him before he takes it to the store. The only PSU I could take him is 300V and his currently is 450V Any other ideas?
-
So my mate rang today and asked me if I could go around and look at his PC for him because it wouldn't turn on and he thought the PSU was faulty. I went round and when he presses the power button it comes on, the fans spin up and after about 2 seconds it *Beeps* and then goes off and can only be turned on again if you turn it off and on again at the mains. I told him I couldn't fix it and its probably a failing PSU or failing or failed hardware. Do you guys have any ideas as to what this could be because I'd like to let him know before he takes it to the shop for repairs tomorrow. Thanks!

So I've just got WinTV for my pc and despite only having nine channels because of a signal booster I can't connect up it seems to be working well. It has a record function to record shows but won't automatically boot up the system when its time for recording to start or shut the pc down when recording has finished. I was just wandering if there is a program I can download which will shut the pc down at a requested time. Anyone know of anything? Thanks

Well it always used to work before without that dll

When I booted up my PC yesterday I got the blue screen saying my disk needs to be checked for consistency. I'd already skipped this a few times and seeing as I was in no hurry I let it run. During the process I noticed it deleted a few files and then 'Restored orphan files'. After this I logged on and my theme wasn't working. I went to display properties to set the theme again and noticed only Windows Classic was available. I checked the Themes service was running and it wasn't when I tried to start it, it gave me the message 'The requested module could not be found'. I performed a repair installation of XP and it fixed it allowing me to use Luna and Royale themes but customized themes from websites still do not work and appear like windows classic. I am running XP Pro Thanks

The only problem I have with Vista is that if you have an old graphics card you have to put up with the butt ugly 'Vista Basic' theme. Would it have killed MS to make a Nice, good Aero based theme that just didn't have the transparency crap?

I just did some updates on my PC and it installed the new (vista) RDC on my PC. I don't like it and want to go back to the old XP one. How can I do this? Thanks.

Neither of those methods has worked! I just tried using Windizupdate through Firefox and that seems to have worked and am trying autopatcher now to see if that has any updates Windizupdate missed. Thanks for your replies.

There are two files. They are too big to post but you can view them here. http://ptc.po.gs/stuff/

Afraid that hasn't worked.

Does anybody know of any patches or workarounds that will get Halo 2 to run on anything other than Vista? I wouldn't mind but I just plain don't like Vista. Thanks.

I am trying to install the exact same version of iMesh as what I have ran on 2000 before.
-
I recently installed Windows 2000 on my PC and iMesh stopped working. It has worked on Windows 2000 before so I don't know why it isn't now. Please find a screenshot attached. Thanks.
