  1. I have been using NT 5 without IE and above mentioned pesky .dlls http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...rt=#entry632606 Installed NT 5 according to Vorck's instruction Made all the personal settings I wanted Installed BlackBox In registry deleted references to .dlls Set default shell to blackbox reboot deleted .dlls explorer.exe does not work; I use good old winfile, or 7zip; explorer replacements, like a43 works, but cannot copy/past files, you need to use "send to" which you should set up before elimination of .dlls Some programs won't install because they want wininet.dll or urlmon.dll flashplayer won't work without wininet.dll so i put a copy of wininet.dll in the directory where flashplayer is, but from there wininet.dll cannot access and write in winnt directory
  2. What happened to vorck.com ? Yes I installed NT 5.0 following Fred Vorck's instructions. Using BartInstallCD I can make NT 5-bootable installation CD. After installing NT 5, removed references in registry to shdocwv.dll, wininet.dll, urlmon.dll, browseui.dll, then eliminated these libraries from system32. Use bbLite as shell, winfile as File Man. IE-less NT 5 is my winOS since March, it is my replacement/upgrade to IE-less 98se http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...533;entry632243 (Vorck is the best , the others just tried) Because IE is the virus; urlmon, wininet the malware
  3. Fair enough I, of course, would beg to differ
  4. rov I sent you PM -- hopefully you received it (it took three attempts) _____________________________ Warez Forbidden - Read our forum rules. Specifically rule one. 1. This is not a warez site! I have (legal) NT 5.1 installation CDs, and don't care to use XP; but if someone does ? what is the procedure ?
  5. At one time you paid for win98, you just don't have a CD; so you wouldn't be braking anything if you downloaded a copy of 98
  6. My NT 5 CD is not bootable and I don't have floppy drive Is it possible to make those four floppy images into an image that I could burn onto a bootCD ?
  7. Thanks for the link If nothing else, the instructions on that site will keep me busy for a while Edited a day later Followed~ instruction, installed modified NT 5, I am online posting this wininet.dll I was able to delete after installation, shdocvw.dll is there, but unable to do much Edited on March 14 Worked out the details. Eliminated wininet.dll, shdocvw.dll, urlmon.dll, browseui.dll, and deleted all references to them in the registry. Installed bbLean as default shell, use winfile.exe with StepUp as file manager. It works. It is my replacement for win98lite. Thanks again for the link (As for a Linux try-it-on-for-size, my recommendation would be GoblinX-mini or Wolvix-cub)
  8. Actually, they are not needed at all. They are the real spy-ware in Windows 95 and 98 can be installed without them and both works fine without them. A number of programs, like Nero and Roxio, won't install without wininet.dll even though wininet.dll has nothing to do with their operation. Without shdocvw.dll, urlmon.dll and wininet.dll I could use NT 5 for going online. I really don't like that shdocvw and wininet make directories which I do not want and do not need
  9. Is it possible to take wininet.dll, urlmon.dll, shdocvw.dll out of NT 5 ? I tried 2000lite but it doesn't do that For years I used 98lite (full wireless)
