Ahh, I am having trouble finding out if my current mobo is IDE right now, and if my new one is AHCI. Can anyone help me find out? Is it a big deal if I transition between the two? Sorry, you're talking to a 15 year old with a knowledge of computers up to certain extent... EDIT: Wait a minute here, is IDE equal to PATA? If so, I should have no problem, since I haven't used PATA in years...hahahah. REEDIT: Wait, never mind, would I go into my bios settings to see if I am running in AHCI mode?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I don't believe I am going from IDE to AHCI, but I will double check to make sure. No newer drivers have been installed on my motherboard, but should I get rid of my old drivers before I install the new hardware just to make sure no conflicts arise?

Well, I'm using W7 x64, and I am only running one drive at the moment, so what exactly would I have to change?

I'm replacing an intel DG965SS motherboard. It has the same socket, the only thing that is different is the kind of memory that is supported in the new board, which is DDR3. My old board only supports DDR2 memory. I'm thinking that if I clear the drivers for the old mobo and RAM in the Device Manager, I should be in good shape, no? The chipset for the new board is G41, however, and for my old board it is G965, should I be concerned about that?

Normally, I would agree with this, but in this case, the socket of this mobo (LGA775) is the same as on my current motherboard. The only things I am upgrading are my RAM, mobo and video card. My processor and hard drive are remaining the same, which leads me to my main question: Should I in fact reformat my HDD simply because I upgraded my motherboard, and not the socket? If not, what should I do? Thank you in advance.

Hey guys, a friend of my dad's bought a new Nvidia GTX 290 and gave his older' 9800GX2 to me. I am curious, will my Raidmax RX-630-A psu with 630 watts be enough to run the card? FYI, the card produces a total of 38 amps on the 12v. Thanks for your help.

Skill memory (2x1 gigabyte) which is also PC6400 , but at the present moment it will only post with one gigabyte of memory in either case. And thank you James for the suggestion. You should probably preform a system dump, if you can. Also, If you happen to see the error code on the BSOD report it to us. Will someone move this to the Hardware hangout please?

You may think that I am an insolent snot after posting that rant about Panda Anti-Virus. That was in the day where I was precocious and boisterous. On behalf of myself, I must say that I Am truly embarrassed and apologize. Today, I now use Trend Micro Anti-Virus, it does not have incessant pop-ups and has a fairly accurate scanning program. It is a tremendous step up from Panda. To be perfectly I recommend Trend_micro ANti-Virus to small business owners for basic at-home use.

Hey, everyone, it seems as it has been forever since I have been online here, anyway, let me cut to the chase. My mother wanted a way to record and playback television without using TIVO or a similar brand. So, my father(who essentially taught me everything I know about computers) and myself set off to build our first HTPC. The problem is that the ABIT Fatal1ty F190HD will not post with two dimms, the dimms work fine individually and are definitely are not the problem and they are installed in the correct DIMM Slots. The Mobo seems to post with 1 dimm perfectly in either slot 1 or 2. So, in an effort to resolve this problem, my father and I attempted to raise the DDR2 voltage of the memory which has been suggested elsewhere, this did not fix the problem, either. Do any of you have any suggestions?
