  1. http://www.anhosting.com/

been using it for a couple months now. i read around lots of review sites and this host was just unebnatable. the whole package is just insane for the small price. i see no possible way for me to come anywhere close to using all of my space or bandwidth.

there are also some coupons around on google for 3 free months..

Wow, that looks great! I will research that one more and maybe suggest it. Do you happen to have any links to those coupons...

Just out of curiosity ripken - where's your website? :P

Yeah! Where is it? :P I'd like to see all your experience at work, since you seem to be pretty good at web development from what I see on your posts.

  2. lol, good idea. my webhost allows the creation of .htaccess folders, did you try doing it thru an ftp program?
Yes, I have FTP access, but I can't make anything called .htaccess on my local computer, I get an error telling me I must enter a file name. If I upload a text document to the server and try to rename it to .htaccess, it says
Response: 550 Permission denied on server. You are restricted to your account.

So I guess it can't be done. Oh well, thanks anyway.

Yes, I tried with FTP. Where do you get your hosting?

  3. I don't think this a good idea at all. If you aren't running explorer, it won't suck your RAM, and how big is it that it really matters on the hard disk? So many applications depend on it that it would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

  4. Just a tip, when possible, I would avoid buying office with your computer. getting the retail version is sometimes cheaper. For example, if you were to buy Office 2007 Home/Student with a new dell computer, it would cost you $150. Buying directly from MS would be the same - $150. But here's the catch: the OEM version allows one activation. The MS retail version is licensed for 3 computers. If you got an eMachine or Gateway, you probably got a trial version when you got it. They have a nasty habit of doing that.

W3Schools has great guides on the basics if you're just starting out. I found PHP.net and MySQL.com a little overwhelming when I first started learning.

Amen; that's a great resource. I learned a lot there. Unfortunately, their examples aren't always the most useful when put to real use. :(

  6. From the Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting help glossary:

    .htaccess (Hypertext Access)

The name .htaccess refers to the main configuration file for Apache, a popular open-source HTTP server. The .htaccess file can be used to create custom error pages and web page redirects, set up password protection, enable SSI, and more. Yahoo! does not currently allow you to upload .htaccess files to your account. For other customization options, we recommend the Custom Error Pages and password-protection features available in your Web Hosting Control Panel.

    :(

  7. I've never seen that before. But mine came pre-configured to scroll when I drag across the right or bottom edges of the touch pad. I never had to configure that.

Oh and nothing really on their website. Not a great site.

  8. Bah! I'm stuck on 66, I need to get some work done and this is driving me crazy. SOMEONE YANK MY NETWORK CABLE! Oh wait... darnit, the flash file is cashed, so even if you unplug me, I'll keep this up. AAAAAgggghhhhh! I'm going crazy!!

PS: You all might want to check out this. Even though it still didn't help me past this one.

Oh I bet it's Armageddon. I'll try that in a bit.

    It's not.

  9. WTH is up with level 4, click the answer.... Out of Order, Out of Order, Out of Order, Out of Order????

Every time, I try 3 and none of them are ever it! WTH?!?

By the way, we need an emoticon for WTH/WTF. Like a baffled looking guy, sorta like  and  and  put together.

Oh I just got it! You click on "The Answer"!! Duh!

Yeah, you have to take some of the questions quite literally... There's one of a picture of a horse and it asks you to spell something. :P

Oh gosh. I'm on that one right now. I do NOT get it. Don't tell me. I'll figure it out eventually.

Actually I give up. What do I do about that darn horse one??

wait I get it! You spell horse!

  11. Just don't start spamming to get more lucky stars. :P

I was incredibly tempted to post in this thread a bunch of times as a joke, saying "OK, I won't try to drive up my post count" in each. But I restrained myself. So... is that a grand total, or a posts-per-day, or a % of posts count or what?

  12. Speaking of Synaptics touchpad and tap zones, does anyone know a way to use touch-zones when tap-to-click is turned off? I think it's impossible, but if it is possible, that would be great. I don't like tap-to-click because I'm always "clicking" on something I don't want to click, but I do like tap-zones. Alternatively, is there a way for me to change how hard I have to tap the pad for it to register as a click? Thanks in advance.

  13. Take a look here:

I've been reading the whole website today and I decided to re-arrange my desk at work... I am beginning to feel some tension in my right wrist and I don't want to end up with a wrist tendonitis

They don't account for people who have multiple monitors. I sometimes use two screens at once, my laptop off to the side, with a second monitor attached in the back sitting right in front of me, and external keyboard and mouse in front of me, using the external display as my main monitor and the laptop display for a secondary monitor. I love having two screens to work with. I guess I'll just position myself for the main monitor. Yeah, exercise is good. Very good. I love to run. And bike. And ski, but not this time of year usually where I live.
