I'm just going to assume that's a typo and it was supposed to be GreenBrowser... GreenBrowser - English

I did confirm this to work with Decrypter and Shrink. I've even made a copy of the entire Limewire directory then uninstalled the program and that works too. I don't know if all those files are needed or not but it works for me for now. I'll toy with that more when I get home. Though if any of you know anything about this please let me know. Will this work for some other programs like the bigger ones; photoshop, nero...any games perhaps? I have two chat clients, drcrypter and shrink, a torrent client, limewire, openoffice, dvd43 and a cd burning program that just run as executables...no-install~AWESOME! I'm just looking for more and/or ways to 'convert' the programs I do use. I think it'd be cool to show the system I'm experiementing with this on to my friends and have only updates, drivers and a few things installed yet be as fully functional as all of my other computers.

Bypass Campus Security
PUnitBabyDaddy replied to PUnitBabyDaddy's topic in Networks and the Internet
I made myself clear last time but obviously you don't want to hear it. Trying to circumvent the security that is rightfully placed on his network is stupid and will get him into trouble. I don't care how good you think you are with computers, his network admins are better. I never once spoke about me being good with computers nor did I ask if it was a stupid thing to do. You replied with no help to my concerns. Thank you anyways. Anyhow I've got more info now; apparently the school will allow him access to the blocked services but only after 10pm. They must turn off the firewall or whatever...if that's it then wouldn't some point forwarding tricks work? -
I'd like to get rid of the default folders in My Documents. You can delete them physically but My Music will always comeback! I've searched around and have come across some Tweak programs that will change the directory but I'm not looking to install anything on my systems. I'm just looking for the manual way to do it, if anyone knows it.

Confirmed! Thanks for this info.

Bypass Campus Security
PUnitBabyDaddy replied to PUnitBabyDaddy's topic in Networks and the Internet
Are there no blocks or something to use in order to accomplish this task in the safest manner possible? -
Well that'd be nice if I could. When those are installed and I look into their installation directories there are only two files; one being the .exe and the other a read-me.txt. I'll try copying the executables and accessing them on my other system. Is that all you're meaning for me to do?

A friend of mine attends Eastern New Mexico and uses the campus internet access. He cannot download via bittorrent as he would like to. He can't even direct connect to me using a chat client. What can he do in order to regain those services? If more info is needed let me know and I'll ask him.

Nothing at all. I'm just trying to find an alternate standalone for my laptop. Just an experiment really. I have two laptops and I'm going for mostly standalone apps on one and then on the other I'm looking for all freeware programs that are better or fairly close to the ones I normally use. Trying to help out some college buddies that have no money XD!
-
I'm looking for a decent dvd ripper/burning 'standalone' app. I've search but haven't found one that did both. It'd be nice if it were like DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink.

What are programs called that you don't h install but just use the .exe or whatever the filetype may be? Also are there any advantage to these?

This is pretty much what my dad decided on and what I did was a fresh install of XP Home, then updated it fully and to SP2. Don't have IE, MSN or OE thanks to nLite so he's using FireFox again but this time the 1.5 version and not 1.0.1. I did hook him up with the "IE Tab" extension. Installed MS AntiSpyware and Antivir Guard and have them with real-time protection of course and scheduled scans. Also we're using the Windows Firewall. Is anything else needed? SpywareBlaster, Ad-aware or Spybot?
-
Ok, I've reformatted and reinstalled WinXP Home so far. I've not connected the computer to the network just yet because I am trying to get some apps on disc and installed first. I'll be including the SP2.exe in that mix as well. Once they are all installed and running I will then visit the Windows Update site for a complete and full update. Should I install everything that comes up? Like other than the security hotfixes such as the driver updates? Its going to take me awhile because I'm not going to mess with nLite just yet and I don't think its needed for his computer installation. I'm pretty much just planning to scrap our entire network and start over. My reorganized network will consist of two desktops (wired) and a laptop with a wireless connection. Any suggestions on the hardware setup? Once again my router is a linksys wrt54g. Concerning software we haven't decided what to use at the moment because he likes to buy stuff whereas I like the free stuff. Its just nice to be able to have a system with all freeware apps that do the job just as good or better. I really like OpenOffice XD! Anyhow thanks for the help thus far and I am so ready to get through this whole situation lol. HE'S BUGGING ME!

First I'd like to thank everyone for the help so far and just know it will definitely be useful! Secondly I'd like to add that he does use FireFox as his default browser. I really didn't think he was actually 'hacked' but that's his claim. See he got a call on his cell phone one evening from a company in California that wanted to confirm a several thousand dollar purchase that was made through his paypal account. He denied it then and called me. I was home and hopped on the computer to check it out. The password to login into his paypal had changed and this was the case to 3 out of the four email addresses he uses. I don't know exactly what happened but when he was p***ed he was wanting to blame one of my friends that lives with us for visiting porn sites and anything else but my dad does in fact visit sites I was never too sure about anyhow. He was always calling me into his office for help with some site needing you to enable cookies or he needed to know how to open files. I had him with MS Word 2003 Pro and he was fine but then he needed to open .pdf so I installed Acrobat. If there were anything else that I wasn't sure about or too lazy to help with I told him it wasn't good or I didn't know and to not mess with it. His computer is connected to the router by ethernet cable rather than a wireless card. I should have stated that before, sorry but I was in a hurry at the dinner table, lol. I really like the use of nLite but I'm not so much familiar with it so I'll be sure to check out the threads on it but regarding security in my case which is protecting my dad how should I go about using it? Also with some of the above mentioned precautions and programs are any of them linked?...? What I mean is if on one computer in our network do they also need to be installed and configured on everyone of the systems as well? Thanks again and I will check back later on with some more info from my dad, lol, he doesn't know what he talks about but atleast I've come to right spot for help.

My dad was recently hacked or something I'm not exactly sure but whatever. I'm the computer person of the house and all of my computers and his are networked via linksys wrt54g router, some wired and some wireless. I'm going to reformat his computer and start all over with a fresh install of a legit Windows XP Home copy. I'm just here to ask for help/suggestions on where to go from the start...what programs to get and run, how, when and basically all that. I've been running Antivir Guard (Free Personal) and had the XP Firewall on as well as the hardware firewall being the router. He seems to need more protection. I don't like everything he does while online and this is why he doesn't get to use any of my systems, lol. He likes to have his passwords saved with the broswer option and all that so he's like lazy and just wants to go to msn.com and be at his inbox. LAME! I hate that and if its not safe please tell me here so that I can inform him. I'm going to need settings, tweaks and easy to use apps that I can install, setup and then not have to mess with again. Thanks in advance!

I've made a free board hosted by www.invisionfree.com and been through all of their FAQs and forums. I've also tried to google search for my answers with no luck, just yet. I'm the admin, lol obviously, and I have a couple of Super Mods that are friends of mine and we want to know how, if even possible, to post video...like music video or other clips? Samething with just an audio file? This is all for now, as I am trying to search for things myself and with my team. Thanks in advance and would appreciate any help!

I like this! Can you post some info on what you're using, please? Also the wallpaper is extremely nice, link?

Okay, I've got a firewire cable now and downloaded WinDV. I tried a few samples and came up with many different size files. I could get 30 seconds anywhere from a few MB's to well over 100 MB's. Which is the better setting(s) for say video that is between 35-50 minutes. I am looking forward to putting the videos on DVD and I know that size will grow even more so I need some help with this, please... Thanks again, PUBD

WoW! I thank both of you that replied. I have a laptop with built in FireWire so I'll try to find the specs and look at what type it is or whatever. I will also be evaluating the programs that were suggested. I still intend to get my dad to buy a FireWire card or a better motherboard (his is crappy). Thanks again! Would still appreciate anymore tips or suggestions as well.

My dad has a Sony Digital 8 Handycam (DCR-TRV250) and he films my cousin's band gigs in clubs and theatres. Not really lit all that well all the time. He does use a tripod at some points and I believe pans while connected to it. Well he's not the computer person as I am but I never needed to know anything about what I am about to ask so I am a complete and total noob... What I'd like to ask here is how should I go about capturing the video? As of right now USB is our transfer method. From what I've read that seems to be pretty weak. Firewire that much better? RCA? We don't have any drivers or any type of video capture or editing software installed just yet. I've read about a lot of different programs and bookmarked their guides. If any of you use this camera that would be awesome! Basically I am lost in everything. What drivers (if any) are needed, capture program and possibly what settings to use. I'm not totally new to finding help in forums so I will continue to use the 'search method' and hopefully learn as I go. Please provide any info you think will be helpful to us as we intend to put the gigs on DVD and I will be in another forum section soon after I get this step down, LoL. Thanks, PUnitBabyDaddy

Thank you all very much. I just placed an order for the Linksys WRT54G router.

My cable company came out yesterday because I was experiencing slooooow speeds on a 4mb connection. Well I do run through a router which is 3 yrs old. They gave me about 40ft of CAT-6 ethernet cable and a few ends and suggested I try switching the cabels then a new router. I did and it helped nearly half a meg at the most and still a noticable increase at peak hours. Anyways I need to know about a decent router. Any suggestions or favorites? The cable dude told me about a Linksys at Fry's for 75 bucks but I can't find a link to it so I'd have to go check it out. But if I had some ideas on what to look for in a router that'd help me too. I just need a basic 4 port router. Thanks!
