  1. About that auto naming of computer account, I can tell you, I have raised a case at Microsoft since it doesn't work here either. The case has been logged in January and until today there is no solution. In the Computername field in the unattended file you should only put a *, but even then it doesn't work.
  2. I want to generate computernames where the number increases automatically like PC1, PC2, etc. I would expect the settings within WDS (which are onc the "Remote Install" tab on the computer account of the RIS/WDS server) should work fine. the variables which I include in the computer account generation doesn't seem to work anymore with Vista, the syntax is : pc%4# this should generate accounts from pc1 to pc9999 but doesn't work at all. Are the settings on the Computer object also working for Vista or is it just for backwards compatibility ? When I add the computer account settings (pc%4#) in the XML file (by WSIM) I get the error below: [shell Unattend] Computername: failed to set the computer name [gle=0x0000057]When I leave the Computer Account setting empty in the XML file the image process works fine but I get a randomly generated computer name such as HL-.... which I don't want. Has anyone got this working ?
  3. I have setup WDS and install an unattended installation of Vista but the computer account names are randomly generated and it doesn't seem to use the settings configured on the WDS server (just like RIS). Tried it in the XML file, but also no luck. Did anyone manage to install Vista unatteneded and created computer names like PC0001, PC0002, etc.
  4. Try adding a boot image (boot.wim form the Vista DVD) from the WDS console and make sure you choose the correct one (x86, x64)
  5. Yes, you're right, I have imported both the Win PE image file and the Vista image file into WDS. When I look in WDS you have a folder called "Install Images" and another folder "Boot Images" The boot image says "Microsoft Windows Vista PE (x86) and in the Install images folder I have an image called : Windows Vista Enterprise Security has been checked. What else do I need to do to make the Vista image visible when booting PXE ? thanks
  6. Hi, I have installed WDS, added WinPE and Vista Enterprise images. When I boot with PXE I can only choose for PE or the good old RIS, why doesn't my through the GUI added Vista image appear ?
  7. Allright, that's what I thought so. But why can't I see the Vista image which I have also added to the WDS server ? I have configured the Vista image to use an unattended file on the WDS server, but I cannot see this Vista image when booting with PXE. am I missing some steps ?
  8. Hi, I am running WDS as a test now, it works fine, since I can boot with PXE. I have added the PE boot image as well as a Vista Enterprise Image in WDS, but when I use PXE boot I can only choose for the good old RIS, or for the Windows PE image, when I boot PE it boots fine but then it doesn't do anything anymore. I have also created an answerfile with "Windows system image manager" and linked it to the Vista image. But what do I need to do to see the Vista image in my boot menu when booting with PXE ? Thanks
