  1. It's dependent on your level of MSDN subscription.

MSDN Operating systems don't have Vista listed yet.

MSDN Professional v/ VS does have Vista, but only x86.

... and those are the two levels I have that I could check with.

I guess people with O/S subscriptions will have to wait a little while longer.

  2. Yeah, just checked again - Vista seems to have disappeared.

My product keys are still there though, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Maybe they're setting up a few more download servers or something, because of the demand. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  3. New build of XPlode 4 - 4.5.51025.1615.

No new features as such, but it does fix the crashing issues with Core 2 Duo's, as well as dramatically dropping the CPU usage of the XPlodeGFXInstall and XPlodeOriginalInstall plugins.

You can download the latest from: http://www.voidfx.com/FX/XPlode/Download

And can you also let me know if you have any problems with the installer - complete rewrite, I'm sure there are new bugs I haven't found.

    Cheers,

    Nick.

And for people that haven't seen it before, depending on your configuration...

  4. Anyone got a Core 2 Duo?

I've had a couple of reports saying that XPlode 4 crashes when running on them.

If you set the affinity to single CPU, no problems. Multiple CPU's, problems.

Doesn't seem to be a problem with HT machines or AMD x2's, just the Core2Duo's.

Anybody come across it? Or are willing to test?

  5. XP isn't officially supported, but it still can be done.

If you're specifically looking at ImageX, you can check out my testing from quite a while back.

Keep in mind that this wasn't really aimed at deployment with BDD, but rather to find a quicker way to install XP. (Sysprepped image -> WIM -> apply image to HDD from WinPE)

You can check it out at http://www.voidfx.com/FX/Random:WIM_Installation

Bit old, but it might point you in the right direction, at least for capturing.

Also, if you look on connect, you'll find that the latest version of BDD Beta2 supports XP deployment.

  6. I don't.

The main component that I get emails about is Internet Explorer, and so far, all problems have been introduced by IE being removed by nLite.

I figure that if there are ways to check if nLite has been used, then I could possibly figure out from there whether required bits are missing.

That said, I've not mucked around with nLite to any great degree, so I don't really know whether I can use the files it generates to figure out whether needed components have been removed.

As I said, I shall pursue this a bit closer to completion, because if I can gather as much information about the installed environment, the easier it'll be for me.

  7. Initially it'll be a quick check, rather than having to check other places afterwards.

If I know nLite has removed stuff, then I shouldn't need to check other places.

It's still a way off before I need to sort that stuff out, so I'll get back to you via PM a bit closer to when it's nearing completion.

  8. hmm, working on an "If you removed IE Core with nLite, XPlode won't work!!!111" error message? ;)

    Haha, kinda :P

    :)

Just in case that something like that is true it's better to test if there are no needed files there, nlite isn't the only way to remove files.

Well, I was going to be doing that already, but I was trying to figure out whether it would be quicker to query nlite's output :P

  9. Wraith, I guess you want to detect it and warn users or something.

    Precisely.

Anyway just see if there is nlite.in_ in the i386 folder.

Was also thinking about post-installation - I'm guessing that \windows\inf\nlite.inf is going to be what we'll go with in that case.

No associated registry entries at all?

    Ta muchly.

  10. Okay, it's been bugging me for quite a while, and I'm sick of the people who whinge at me with XPlode/SelectInstall not working when they've removed Internet Explorer.

So tell me, why do you remove components from Windows?

DVD burners are cheap as chips nowadays, so size shouldn't be a problem.

    What realistic reasons are there?

...and I really hope it's not because you need to be more l33t than the other kids on your block. :P

  11. Just the problem that when i click the .exe nothing happens

That's exactly thesame problem i got.. or am i just that noob.. anyways, if someone is willing to teach us on how to run this program, i will be more than happy to hear it... :)

The long and the short of it is that if you don't tell XPlode to do anything, it won't do anything.

There is documentation that comes with it, and there are example XML files that come with it.

You need to provide the thought in order to apply it to your situation, it won't do that for you.

  12. It's getting close to the XPlode5 release date I suppose, so I'd like to recruit some testers for some use over the next few days.

You can read about the current status of X5 here:

    http://interact.voidfx.com/FX2/viewtopic.php?id=12

And if you don't know what XPlode is, check the website:

    http://www.voidfx.com/FX/XPlode:Information

    Or some screenshots:

If you want to help test, then post a reply either here or on there. Preferably there, but if you have an aversion to joining yet another forum, then by all means post here.

The post on the other forum has a couple of attachments - a very simple XML file, so people can translate the string tables for other languages, as well as the plugin API header file.

If you have comments/changes/thoughts/ideas, I would appreciate it if you could refrain from posting here, and do so on the other forum. Makes it easier for me in development.

  13. I like it simple. :}

Everyone likes simplicity. At least, if they've got a brain. :P

Seeing as I've been.... AWOL... for a while:

Just one of the screens... the other is much the same, except it has nothing but the background :P

  14. am very sorry about that, its just that in most of these topics i don't get a precise ans. but thanks again for ur replies

sorry - was not speaking to you.

T D had initially only replied with the first line "Omg, Please Read The Unattended Guide Before Posting!" in his post. Given that context you can see why I replied in that way.

As for your question - you could possibly place WindowsPE on a second partition, with the Windows installation files - as well as the programs you wish to install, located there. You can run the normal winnt32 setup from WinPE, go through the standard procedure, and boot into a clean copy of Windows. Once that is completed, you could also run the installation programs on the installation partition.

Check the WindowsPE forum out for more information if you decide to go this route - I'm sure there are other people that have tried to achieve the same outcome you're asking for.
