  1. I used diskeeper 8 professional to try it out, it installs a service that starts with windows eating up 17-20mb of ram, only to be able to use a program that will be used only on a few ocasions, that is when defragmenting the disc. I´ve tried Ultimate Defrag, and i found it very slow, plus it crashed my pc while it´s was working, very very dangerous. I also tried Power Defragmenter (witch is only a gui that uses contig from systernals software, actually), and it its´fast as hell, but the final results were not so good. Gonna try Perfect Disk. If it´s now **** heavy, not install a useless service that will be used once in every two or three months, i´ll take it.
  2. try MDC they got a tutorial there step-by-step on how to make a extension for ff.
  3. not sure if that is what you are looking for but ever tried Cute News? It does not use SQLs, the data is stored in flat files.
  4. the link is at http://gugutz.co.nr/regtweaks The page is under construction untill a compile my new collection, witch will be only essential tweaks for an unattended setup. but you can download the version 2 (the same that was attached at this topic) in the page above. stay tuned for the new version, it will be a collection with only essential tweaks that will be suposed to make an unattended setup shining, fast and reade (and beaultiful, of course). I´m learning a few things with vista first, but shouldn´t take long. btw, i don´t know why the attachment has been gone. i didn´t do it. IPB must have exploded it somehow. cheers to all. gugutz
  5. Hi to all. A while ago a sent a message to Aaron asking how i could make a translated version of the unattended guide to the language of my comunity. I never got the anwser back. So i posted here on the forum, but again, nobody seemed to give the clues. Then i decided to go to work. After lots of ctrl + and ctrl + v, cups of coffee and "don´t-know-how-many" cigarettes, the project is half-done. I´m asking here for opinions from the admins of the guide, like Alanoll, about my translated version. If anyone fell unconfortable about the logo i made, the layout of the side beeing praticly the same as the original, anything, i can remade the stuff. In each page i kept the credits of the original poster (most of them by Alanoll), and added a line saying that i translated it. I´m also going to put a few lines in the intro page for visiting users to know that it´s a translated version of the MSFN.org guide (though the guide is so famous that anyone should see right at the first look at it) the guide is located at http://gugutz.co.nr/unattended/xp The Beginners and Intermediate Section are almost all done, i´m leaving the Advanced and Reference sections to do after christmas, probably tomorrow. Please visit and let me know what you think. (PS: if the link isn´t openning or you get a DNS error, please wait a while then try again. It´s just that my host pretty much sucks.) And Merry Christmas TO ALL!!
  6. mmarable, the User´s files i change directly from winnt.sif using ProfilesDir=D:\Users So after windows installs, the Docs and Settings will already be configured to D:\Documents and Settings (i changed the name of the folder to "Users") So all i really need is a way to automate the partitioning the formatting part. I´ll do some tests using "DetachedProgram" to call a batch file that will format the D:\ at T-39.
  7. Hi all. I know there are plenty of topics about this, but i use the search function untill it practilly exploded, and didn´t find anything related specificly to what i want. On the store i work they sell computer with Linux distributions. So the customers ask me to install Windows XP. I´m using unattended CDs for quite a long time now, but i want not to automate some parts that i still do manually. The hard disc driver of the computers my store sells almost always comes with about 5 partitions, so i delete all of them, create a C: primary, and a D: to put personal files, then i format C: using NTFS Quick, and D: keeps unformated untill windows completes the setup so i can format it trhough Windows Explorer. But i want to change the Docs and Settings folder to D: now, so the customers can store their data on a second partition, and will not take the risk on loosing their personal files. So how to automate the whole process? Do i really have to use BartPE or WinPE, or a Diskpart Script will take care of it? If so, what is the script that i should use and when and how do i call it? What i mean to do it: * Automaticly create a 10 gb C: partition to install windows. * Automaticly create a D: partition with all the rest of the disc size to store personal files. * Format both partitions in NTFS. * Start installing windows. Any way i can achieve this?
  8. RyamVM Add-ons and Update Packs are all in english. I´m not willing to use it with my pt-br XP. The new DirectX End-User Runtime December 2006 are out. And i don´t know any other way to install it without using RunOnceEx. Shoudn´t there be a method for integrating it in the source of XP CD? nLite does not do it. Maybe replacing the directx files inside the source of the CD...
  9. solved my problem. if anyone else has a voodoo card, check here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry598081
  10. got it solved. Amigamerlin 3.0 for Windows XP is working fine under Vista (not the 3.1 RC1 drivers. Those use the new SFFT core, witch does not work under Vista). For anyone who may care, the information is posted.
  11. I´m having problems with my Voodoo 4 4500 under Vista. I´ve tried Amigamerlin 3.1 RC1 and SFFT Drivers Alpha 42, but i get blue screens at the logon screen with both and always have to restart under Safe Mode.
  12. yeah, i´m a 3dfx fan. but also a guy who does not have money to buy a new nVidia or ATI card. voodoo cards are really good, the graphics are beautiful, but these "no-support" thing are getting really annoying. i got it covered when i first installed xp, but i think i´m gonna have some headaches with vista.
  13. hey, witch drivers did you use? i´m on Vista Ultimate, and having the same problem with my Voodoo 4500. I´ve tried the SFFT Drivers Alpha 42 and Amigamerlin 3.1 RC1, and got blue screens on both when i restarted my PC.
  14. thank you, jules. i tried installing all the hotfixes, except IE7 and now it´s installing. but isn´t nLite suposed to integrate correctly IE7 in a XPCD? anyone else got a problem integrating it?
  15. I tried to use the svcpack method using the Q:A and R:N switches in svcpack.inf to install directx october release. appearently didn´t work. nLite does not integrate it. Is there another way? Other thing, inside the directx package there is lots of zipped files, like directx april 2006, and other. Are all those packages necessary? I was thinking that maybe i coulde reduce the size of directx, cause it´s ocupying lots of space in my uxp cd.
  16. what about those: KB890830.exe KB913433.exe KB918899.exe aren´t those hotfixes that has to be put in svcpack? i never was able to integrate them with nlite. is there more hotfixes that nlite does not integrate? wondering if i don´t have the full list of hotfixes....
  17. i already removed that. i was suposed to "install" gdidetool, just a dumb experiment.
  18. I made a new xpcd to format my pc. I made it using the same stuff i always use: I integrated with nlite all the hotfixes i had (critical, recommended and some for media player) Integrated IE7 with nLite Integrated WMP11 with WMP11 Integrator Deleted these folders: * cmpnents * DOCS * SUPPORT * VALUEADD * i386\LANG * i386\WIN9XMIG * i386\WIN9XUPG * i386\WINNTUPG My svcpack.inf is configured to install these hotfixes (with cannot be integrated with nlite): [SetupHotfixesToRun] KB890830.exe /Q KB913433.exe /Q:A /R:N KB918899.exe /Q dx-oct06.exe /Q:A /R:N gdidetl.cmd qchain.exe Ok, it boots, formats my hard disc, copies all the files to the hard disc, reboot, but when the setup is just starting, the computer restarts. Then if i try to continue the setup, appears a message saying the setup is preparating to restart the installation, but restarts again. I´m thinking maybe it´s something to do with svcpack, since my pc restarts right when setup begins, at the first blue screen, witch is when svcpack is loaded (T-39) But perhaps it has something to do with IE7 or other hotfix. I really don´t know. Anyone got the same problem and could give me a tip about how i fix this?
  19. soporific, tell me how can i help you to translate this tool. i want to make a pt-br version of it.
  20. just tell me what you need and i´ll help develop a brazilian version of this pack. it really sounds great stuff.
  21. will this work for non english versions of windows 98, like, say, brazilian portuguese?
  22. i´de like to learn how to make that conversion that Yzöwl made for me. That way i could organize the files better. Where can i get an article teaching how to do that?
  23. (sorry for the double posting, my browser is acting wierd...)
  24. how do i convert to inf the "(Default)" keys? like this: the " @= " means it is the "Default" key, the first key, between ( ), i don´t know how it is in the english xp, in mine the name is (Padrão) (something like (Standart) ).
  25. what do you mean, kof? what is a modular disc? where can i get info for it?
