Have you tried another psu.I had the same fault on my machine a while back.I checked all the connections on the mobo, still no joy. Then fit a new psu and no problem since.
The transformer in a psu stores the current every time you shutdown,so that when you cold boot it doesn't put such an immediate strain on it.If the transformer is faulty it won't hold the charge.
One thing you can do before laying out for a new psu is,open it up and give the cooling fans a good clean.A lot of people clean the inside of their pc case, but seem to overlook the psu.Hope that helps Boogs.

Drewadrip can you elaborate on that please. Why should we use NTFS as opposed to FAT32.What are the advantages of NTFS for the average home user?

I agree with Conan.I've just converted to ntfs and defragged 20gb in 30 minutes.

Same here.I'm using Diskeeper as well.I'm using FAT32,but i believe NTFS is faster to defrag because a lot of the files are compressed.

XPerties here in the UK telephone cable has 6 wires.4 for the telephone and 2 for the dsl.The simple reason 56k modems very rarely connect at 56k is purely because theres more traffic on a telephone line than a dsl one.

Have you tried switching the lines in the boot.ini so that ME boots first?
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft windows ME" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

What modem are you using? Also are you using Compuserve's dialling software to connect? If so,what version?

I did that tweak a while ago and i saw no noticeable difference. It would probably benefit those on a large network, but not home users.

A new patch was released today (v1.05).It may help.

I think you definately have a memory problem, because you say you are getting identical beep signals, whether the RAM is installed or not.Is the 512mb RAM on one stick? If it is try putting it in the other dimm slots.I have heard that some Abit KT7 series boards are temperamental using 512mb singles. For reference, number 1 slot is the farthest away from the cpu.Have you tried another stick of memory? Each time you move the RAM reset the CMOS.Hope that helps.Good luck
