  1. ^^ Thanks. Regarding left side pane, you'll need to edit the "shellstyle.dll" file in the theme folder to change the image.

  4. I'm pleased to announce my new theme "Vista Seven" for Windows Vista: This theme is not very special. It has been made to fulfill a few requests which I have received from lots of people. Actually not all people like those fancy Vista themes having lots of transparency, stylish buttons, shell style, start menu, etc. Many people are satisfied with default Aero theme but they want to have a few features which are missing in default theme and which have been included in this theme: 1. New Taskbar similar to Windows Seven. 2. Transparent titlebar in Maximized windows. Note that the titlebar has glass even in maximized windows which you'll never get in any 3rd party Vista theme. 3. New Shellstyle in Control Panel similar to Windows Seven. So its a theme which is similar to default Vista theme but having a few features taken from Windows Seven. I hope you'll like it. 5. @XPero I agree but this happens in other Windows versions as well. When we click on "New -> Shortcut", Windows immediately creates a new shortcut but removes it if we close the wizard. But in Vista the bug exists in "Item not found" error.
  6. A new bug which I found yesterday: 1. Right-click on the Desktop or in the Explorer and select "New -> Shortcut", It'll open "Create Shortcut Wizard". 2. Now either click on "Cancel" button or press "Esc" key to exit from the wizard and get ready to see the bug. 3. Again right-click on Desktop and you'll see a new entry "Undo Apply Properties". Properties? Which properties? Did we apply any property which we should undo now? 4. OK. Not a big issue but try to click on this new entry and you'll be surprised to see an error message: WTH??? Windows can't find the new shortcut which I never created. Keep clicking on "Try Again" button and it'll keep showing the same error message again and again. Now click on "Cancel" button and the "Undo Apply Properties" option will change to "Undo". Click on "Undo" and it'll change to "Redo". Keep clicking on both these options and enjoy the endless loop unless you End Task of Explorer or log off/restart your system.
  7. Thanks guys for your reply. I agree that if they can't release an SP, then they should release updates to fix these bugs. PS: All these bugs have been re-created in Default Vista theme as well on several other Vista machines. Even I have checked them in fresh installations too. So it has nothing to do with theme.
  8. Guys As we all know Microsoft released first service pack for Windows Vista this March and tried to fix all broken things in Vista including bugs, performance issues, security issues, etc. When Windows Vista was under testing, I found several bugs and reported them to Microsoft but to my disappointment, almost all of them are still present in SP1. Only 1 bug got fixed in SP1 but other bugs are still present and can be easily re-created. So I want to ask you a simple question! Do you think, its time for Microsoft to release SP2? I posted an article earlier containing all Vista bugs which can be easily re-created on any Vista machine. One of them is as following: File Renaming Bug: This bug appears when you try to change a file name as well as its extension. First make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" option is disabled in "Folder Options". Now open Explorer and try to rename a file. Type a new name and also change its extension, then click on empty area in Explorer, Windows will show a confirmation dialog box. Click on "Yes" button. As soon as you click on "Yes" button, a weird selection rectangle will be created from the point you clicked on empty area to the "Yes" button location. There are several other bugs which are very annoying. So please take a look at the following article: [Did You Know] Ultimate List of Windows Vista Facts, Bugs and Goof-ups So after reading the article, pls post your opinions. What do you think, is it time to expect SP2 for Windows Vista?
  9. ^^ Thanks for your kind words mate. 1. The right-side icons in Startmenu will not be visible. Its by design as Windows Vista also doesnt show the icons and I have tried to make this theme look-a-like Vista. 2. You can use the "Basic" sub-style of the "VistaVG Ultimate" theme to get "User Accounts" shortcut in startmenu. You can't get it in Aero version. 3. Use "VistaVG Ultimate with Searchbar" to get fake searchbar. You'll need to run LSPatch to remove shutdown/log off text. 4. To change icons, you'll need to open the file in Resource Hacker and then click on "Action -> Replace Icon". Now select the desired icon and replace it with your own icon.
  10. Hi guys After long time, I'm glad to announce my new theme for Windows XP "VistaVG Blue Refresh". Its an update over my previous theme. There are a few new features, bug fixes, and small color changes in this updated theme. I hope you'll like this theme. Download Link
  11. Hello guys After getting a lot of demand for a Basic version of my theme “AeroVG for Vista“, I’m proud to announce my new theme “Vista Blue Refresh“. Basically its an update over my previous theme. So now Windows Vista Basic users can also enjoy this theme. Download Link I hope you guys will like the theme. All kind of comments are welcome.
  12. Yep. The theme has problems with larger DPI. Try to increase font size from Appearance tab instead of changing DPI.
  13. ^^ Thats true that they failed to keep their promises about Extras in past but now its confirmed as they have started working on it and believe me you are going to get them very soon.
  14. I was notified that a few download links are broken in the tutorial, so I have fixed all the links.
  15. ^^ Thanks. The theme doesnt take any extra resource. Its same as using default Luna theme.
  16. Thanks for your comments. Thats true that a few registry codes are not to increase the performance and I have clearly mentioned them in the second post. But those few codes makes the daily task easier like Move to and Copy to option. No need to navigate through folders to paste files, just use the option in context menu. And yeah its not necessary to name the file "Vishal.reg" but double quotes are necessary to save it as .REG file otherwise Windows will save it as normal text file if "Hide known file extensions" option is enabled in Folder options. Thats why I asked to save the file with this name. One can choose any other name. Anyway thanks again for your reply.
  17. Following is a description of all above mentioned registry codes:
  18. So you are using Windows Vista and feel that its slower than Windows XP? Then you have come to the right place. Following tutorial will help you in tweaking your Windows Vista to the max and you'll feel a significant improvement in your system performance. So without wasting any time lets start: 1. Following code contains a few registry modifications, which are completely safe and can increase the performance of Windows Vista. Just paste following code in Notepad, save the file with name "Vishal.reg" (including quotes) and then run it: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To] @="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To] @="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmd] "Extended"=- [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd] "Extended"=- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad] "StatusBar"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad] "fWrap"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "AutoEndTasks"="1" "HungAppTimeout"="1000" "MenuShowDelay"="8" "WaitToKillAppTimeout"="2000" "LowLevelHooksTimeout"="1000" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoLowDiskSpaceChecks"=dword:00000001 "ClearRecentDocsOnExit"=dword:00000001 "LinkResolveIgnoreLinkInfo"=dword:00000001 "NoResolveSearch"=dword:00000001 "NoResolveTrack"=dword:00000001 "NoInternetOpenWith"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control] "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="2000" [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer] 2. Right-click on My Computer icon on Desktop and select Properties (or press <WIN> key + <Pause/Break> key), click on Advanced system settings link in left side pane (You can also open it by typing sysdm.cpl in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter). Now click on Settings button in Performance section: Now disable all unnecessary options in Visual Effects tab, you can remain following options enabled according to your requirements: Enable desktop composition (If you want to use Windows Aero theme)Enable transparent glass (If you want to use transparency in Windows)Show preview and filters in folder (If you use Details Pane in Explorer)Show thumbnails instead of icons (If you want to show thumbnails in Explorer)Show window contents while dragging (If you want windows to show content while moving them)Smooth edges of screen fonts (If you want to show smooth fonts)Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop (If you want to show shadows under desktop icon labels)Use visual styles on windows and buttons (If you want to use Windows Aero or Basic theme.) 3. Open Folder Options and click on View tab: Now disable following options:Display file size information in folder tips.Display simple folder view in Navigation pane.Hide extensions for known file types.Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.Other options don't affect the system performance. You can enable/disable them according to your requirements. 4. Right-click on My Computer icon on Desktop and select Manage (You can also open it by typing services.msc in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter). Now goto Services & Applications -> Services. Here you can set a few unnecessary services to Manual, which will not start with windows and will decrease the boot time and will increase system performance. Please follow the following tutorial to know about which services can be safely set to MANUAL: Windows Vista Services that can be Safely set to MANUAL 5. Type msconfig in RUN or Startmenu search box and press Enter. Now goto Startup tab and deselect the unnecessary entries, which you don't want to start automatically with Windows, e.g. you can disable VGA driver utility, Sound Card utility, etc to speed up the startup time and to increase system performance. You can also disable these items using Windows Defender. Open Windows Defender and click on Tools and then click on "Software Explorer". 6. Open Sound in Control Panel (or type mmsys.cpl in RUN or Startmenu search box and press Enter), goto Sounds tab and select No Sounds in Sound Scheme section. Or you can remain some of your favorite sounds but set Exit Windows, Windows Logoff, Windows Logon and Start Navigation to (None). 7. At last I'll advise to defrag the HDD regularly, install only necessary software, use the latest drivers and keep your Windows updated.
  19. ^^ If you think so then you can delete the topic. I'll have no complaint. Really its a great way to appreciate someone's hard work. I have spent lots of hours in compiling the list of questions and then tried to provide their solutions and you say its a copy-paste? I was regularly noticing member problems in various forums and then I summarized these problems which are asked frequently.
