[HELP] Windows installs files with wrong Time & Date stamp.

Hi, :hello:

I’m having a problem with the original Date & Time stamp of the files when the Windows XP finishes the installation. It insists in use the Date and Time stamp of the compression cabinet file, instead of the correctly Date & Time of the file inside the CAB.

This strange behavior occurs when I use nLite (and with HFSLIP). So I decided to do a single test manually and this is what happened:

OS:

a-) CD Original Windows XP SP2 Professional (untouched)

b-) CD Original Windows XP Professional with SP2 slipstreamed (just integrated the SP2)

Files added manually by SVCPACK:

1-) WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe [sVCPACK folder]

2-) "wsus3setup.cat" [sVCPACK folder]

3-) "wuauserv.dll" [i386 folder] (because the patch doesn't update this file in any case).

4-) "DOSNET.INF" and "svcpack.inf" [i386 folder]

Tools Used (obs. The last three programs generate bit identical compressed files):

I-) MS Cabinet Maker - Version 5.1.2600.2180 – from Windows XP SP2

II-) MS Cabinet Maker - Version 5.00.2134.1 – from Windows 2000 SP4

III-) MS Cabinet Maker - Version 6.0.6000.16386 – from Windows Vista Home Premium

IV-) PowerArchiver 2007 - Version 10.0.0.42 – using the CAB compression LZX (Maximum)

If you "EXPAND" (expand -r ) or unpack with "7zip" these two mentioned files "WUAUSERV.DL_" and "WSUS3SETUP.CA_", you can see that they were correctly compressed with the last three above tools (the program number one v5.1.2600.2180 mistakenly uses file creation time instead of last modification time by default).

But when I install the Windows CD I find these Dates & Time (cabinet compression date & time):

However I should see these Dates & Time if the Windows Installation Program correctly decompresses the files.

I already search all over the Net including this forum and "RyanVM.net Discussion Board". Nothing works because the problems of other people were related to the use of the bad version of Makecab, but this is not my case and this behavior occurs with all nLite Integrated Files (or with HFSLIPed files too).

1-) Concluding, my question is: Why the Windows XP is using the Date & Time stamp of the Cabinet modification instead of using the correctly unpacked (decompressed) file with its original Date & Time stamp?

2-) Is there anything that I can change in the Windows installation procedure to obligate the program to decompress the files with the right Date and Time Stamp?

Thanks in advanced!

And forgive my bad English.

Have a nice day.

Anderton.
