Shut down Messenger when Outlook 2003 is open

I am running XP Professional.

The system tray always contains the little Windows Messenger icon, with a cross beside it because we don't have messenger (or don't have an account).

Question is, is it possible to shut it down or disable it in 'settings' so that it doesn't fire up? I haven't found a way to get rid of it while Outlook 2003 is running.

I like a tidy system tray. ;}

Thanks!
