luke.mccormick Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I'm installing my 320 gig SATA drives right now(2 of them) and im putting them in a software mirrored raid, im not sure if I should put the swap file in the mirror or have it in its own non-mirrored partition. it will be a 2 gig swap file, or should i have 2 1 gig swap files non mirrored on each drive?any suggestions? i have 1 gig of physical ram currently.
nmX.Memnoch Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Just leave it on the mirror. Putting the pagefile in a partition on the same physical disk will hurt performance, not help it. The only time it helps to move the pagefile is if you put it on a seperate physical disk from the OS and even that isn't that much these days, especially if you have enough RAM. I'm not saying that the pagefile will never get used if you have enough RAM, because it will. But the effects of it's use will be far less noticeable.I would, however, encourage you to try to get a hardware RAID controller. That'll give you another performance boost over using software RAID.
