Kurt_Aust Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 Microsoft's download site has been seriously spotty as of late, they seem to be transitioning it to a new style (again). For instance I had a lot of trouble getting to the download page for KB2736233 (latest ActiveX Kill-Bits), only once out of multiple attempts did it show up on searching. However as the direct link is still active at this time (noting that your page uses the same direct link), it will be updated if it's still stuffing up after next month's updates.
tomasz86 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the original WMP9 link has been dead for a long time (months if not years ). Edited September 17, 2012 by tomasz86

tomasz86 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) @Kurt_Aust I know you're sceptical about unofficial updates but M$ keeps releasing official updates for Windows 2000 too and I think that it would be good to add them to your list:)Please check:http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2570947http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2780091http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2792100_ie5http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2792100_ie6http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2797052http://windows2000.tk/updates/#kb2798897 Edited March 8, 2013 by tomasz86
PCBONEZ Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) Anomaly? Problem? Bug?.I don't have the skills (or time) to figure out what happened, just reporting something I saw during an install on actual hardware.Build was W2k Advanced Server without any non-MS add-ons beyond 3Ware RAID drivers.[is for a temp file server to store 3TB of data on while I rebuild the 'real' one.]I wasn't paying THAT much attention (fully automated install) but at one point I looked up and saw errors in a dos-box window. For each of the following:NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-x86.exeNDP1.1sp1-KB971108-x86.exeNDP1.1sp1-KB2742597-X86.exeIt said something to the effect that they aren't ?programs? or batch files and would not be installed....(Was kind of fast.... 'programs' may have been a different word but it did say 'or batch files' after that.).Might be nothing but I don't even know how to determine that. (I am NOT a programmer.)Just reporting to the experts that actually know what they are doing.....And thanks for all your work! (All of you.)For the most part I dunno what I'm doing but with your directions I can create up-to-date custom builds that actually work!!(I prefer W2k because it doesn't commit suicide for too many changes when I'm in the middle of something.)Thanks!. tomasz86 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Please define "latest version" - because such things are subject to change with time.(By date) When you wrote that the "latest" was version 7-something.Currently your link on page 1 of this thread goes to version 8-something.Which are confirmed to work in W2k?Avast (including the newest version which is 8 at the moment) still officially supports Windows 2000. Their official requirements are Windows 2000 SP4 + Update Rollup 1 but in reality you also MUST install IE6, i.e. it doesn't work with IE5.5.
Kurt_Aust Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 Added the post end of life hotfixes suggested by tomasz86 (as a separate download).PCBONEZ: If you were using the default install, then you are using updated .Net installers provided by User_Hidden. The "errors" you saw were the batch files searching for the original Microsoft installers for those people who chose not to use the updated installers (see notes part 4).As thomasz86 noted, Avast version 8.0.1483.72 works on Windows 2000 (although I don't care for the Windows 8 skin a lot of programs are using lately).
