eyeball
hi allwe have just inherited a client from another company and they have installed the sever with a domainname.local which is 18 characters long! i know its only supposed to be 15 characters max.the server is running sbs 2003, can anyone think of any major problems with this setup? (im trying to push for a reinstall)at the minute everything seems to be working fine thanks
FAT64
This is a NetBIOS issue. You should be able to just use the first 15 characters of your FQDN; however, if there is a "." in those first 15 characters, replace this with a "-" (hyphen). eyeball
oh right so the shortened netbios name is limited to 15 characters but the standard one isnt limited?and so no problems should arise?thanks
nmX.Memnoch
Right, the FQDN is not limited to 15 characters...only the NetBIOS name.
