luke.mccormick Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Just finished installing Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64, When i installed WDS it automatically installed it in native mode. Is there a command I can use? or what's the process to conver it to mixed mode. I still use Windows XP as my primary os and need an easier way of installing it rather than disc images...Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
tain Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Does this help you?I recently installed 2003 R2 on a new ML150 server. The server itself is to be used mainly as a file server but with Remote installation services also just for the IT PC's (only 6 of them)So got 2003 R2 installed installed SP2 and patched it. Great no problem until I wanted to install RIS...! RIS now updated by SP2 in 2003 and 2003 R2 Windows Deployment Serices. This can run in Native, Mixed or Legacy modes.Native mode: Only the new WIM images can be createdMixed mode : Either Old RIS or Newer WIM images can be used What it now boils down to is this.If you install SP2 and then install RIS you get Windows Deployment Services running in Native Mode! If you install RIS and then install SP2 you get Windows Deployment Services running in Native Mode!On the two above old RIS images dont work If you want to keep or transfer images and still want the old familiar RIS images to work Install RIS on a SP1 machine then you must add an image to RIS before you install SP2 this way Windows Deployment Services will run in Mixed Mode.I came a cropper with this and caused me to do a re-install.Hope this is helpful to someone
