At this point, I think it's safe to say that only a live debug is gonna catch this - is it possible to load a second install of Vista, clean, on that machine? If so, let's install Vista clean, then install your applications one at a time and try to reproduce the issue after each install+reboot. I apologize, but I just don't have the time at the moment to help you with a live debug :).

I found this on the Event Viewer:

Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b091, faulting module MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.762, time stamp 0x45712238, exception code 0xc000000d, fault offset 0x00008a8c, process id 0x344, application start time 0x01c7915a5c2429cd.

Does it help in any way?

Not really - something on your machine was written against the VC 8.0 runtimes, and it's failing (thus the MSVCR80.dll), but other than that, no. It just sounds like one of the apps on your box isn't Vista compatible 100%, and is causing the issue. BTW, I couldn't download the last dump you PM'ed me about.

I've removed for now Acrobat Reader 8.0 which was freezing & causing troubles...

I also removed some Subtitle Studio which I'm sure isn't Vista ready.

BTW, I couldn't download the last dump you PM'ed me about.

please try again, it seems like the server is causing the troubles...

I just removed:
  • TortoiseSVN
  • Vista Codec Pack

seems like to problem is gone...

SVN was ruled out, so I'm left with VCP...
