Hi,

I have a Dell 2900 Server with a Raid 5 configuration on it.

I wish to make a ghost image of it.

Is this possible?

I felt that with RAID 5 it wouldnt be possible do to the casting of the data across multiple drives.

Many thanks

Andy

Thanks Jim.

Never thought about it like that.

Would this still work if you had to replace the HD's - keeping the config/size the same but different physical drives?

I would image it would.

Yes, it will. I've actually used this method for upgrading to larger drives in a file server. Create a Ghost image of the current drives then pull them out. Next put in the bigger drives, configure the RAID and restore the image. Ghost gives you the option of reconfiguring the partition size when you restore the image.

It's worked like a charm for me in the past and as long as you keep the old drives in order then you have a fallback because you can put them back in the server and read the configuration from the drives instead of the controller NVRAM. :)
