Microsoft Updates fails

Ok here is my problem this only happens on older systems 800mhz 256MB RAM. Windows update works perfect and so does Microsoft Update until you install office 2003. Then it spikes my CPU to 100% and after a long time it just fails. I already installed the KB that addresses this issue and it did not fix my problem.

Then remove Microsoft Update and go back to windows update only. There are issues that 927891 do not resolve, and that's the only workaround.

Actually, that is the "fix". What is happening is that the windows update service is parsing a rather large XML file when Office 2000 or higher and Microsoft Update are installed, not to mention doing a large number of allocs and de-allocs of memory and ASCII to Unicode conversion - all of these together add up to high CPU usage in the svchost that houses wuauserv. Note that Windows Vista/Longhorn does not have the issue, but a real, working fix has not been forthcoming for downlevel OSes. That is the current state, like it or not (and most don't, nor shouldn't).

Calling me ignorant(sic) for telling you what the fix is (that there isn't one) seems a bit drastic, by the way. You have no idea who I am, nor what I do or don't know about this issue.

MAReames82, if I were you I'd appreciate any response from someone such as cluberti regarding an issue you probably would have found tons of duplicate threads in a 30 second search. People who know their s*** who post it in great detail are few and far between. I think you should revise your attitude.
