Hello 1st post on here please go easy....

I need to stop users downloading or running files from the Internet.

I have found a setting that stops users from selecting the download directory NoSelectDownloadDir

I just need a setting that stops users from running the file from the internet please?

Thanks in advance.

The best way to accomplish your task is to get a firewall and kill the access to the known websites. You can't disable downloads per se and say that you manage to do so, then how will you receive useful data from the internet?

EDIT:

Forgot to say: welcome to msfn :hello:

Thanks for your reply and your welcome.

The firewall is not an option and it would meen going through a lot of sites. I can disable the saving of files its the running of them when you click on a download link as it still downloads to your pc and then runs from the temp internet files.

If there is ever a download needed then the files will be donwloaded on another pc. Windows Updates will also be covered by a WSUS server.

Can you think of another way of doing this please?

Thanks again for your reply.

You misunderstood what I meant: when you open a web page, you DOWNLOAD its contents. Killing the downloads will also kill your browsing. Hope I made it more clear this time.

hey guys

On the network we run here at school we've been able to deny the kids from downloading *.exe files such as games, msn messenger (boy do they hate us for that!) but theres seemingly nothing that we can do to stop them from simply running the files as opposed to downloading them... monstrous headache, so we just deny all networks access to the internet, if they need the net, we allow access for one lesson only, even then we monitor the usage using 'Securus' .... fab piece of kit! Up until now, we havnt found a way to stop them running .exe files, we take a most defensive attitude :thumbup

Sorry i cant help more!

Thanks for your replies.

I have found a way from another forum.

Its as simple as disabling downloads in the internet security settings section

Tools/Internet Options/Security/Internet/Custom Level/Downloads/ then choose to disable downloads from there.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I need to do the following things from the Registry by meens of running reg files please.

Within IE from the tools/internet options/security/ Internet/custom level

I need to disable ALL the settings to do with ActiveX

Can this be done via the registry? I can go in manually and disable them but I cant find the right reg key.

A few other things I need to do

I need to remove access to the pop up blocker option in the tools menu

Also on the tools menu I need to remove the option to "Reset Web Settings"

Also need to get rid of the "Manage add ons" option

Any help please peeps?

Thanks again.
