how to send a message to another computer within the network?

You can use the NET SEND command. But chances are, you will have to re-enable it in the services

It was disabled after SP1.

Enable Messenger in your services and open a DOS window. The syntax is

net send 192.168.0.x (or the computer name) {Message}

btw, to active message services, is it under control panel, add remove program, window componet wizard, message queuing, Common ?
