I found this file on an unattended xp disc which I had given so that I could see if I could pull all the drivers from it as it finds most for mobo etc when it installs.

Are these files allowing spy/malware onto the host pc by allowing them through my router firewall ?

Here is the top of the files followed by about 50 or more sites.

These files are found in $OEM$\$$\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

no that is blocking those site by uses the host file to redirect those sites if entered or accessed to 127.0.0.1

yup

thats just a way of BLOCKING access to the addresses, so stopping some popups etc
