i did something stupid again. i had a dual boot of xp and i went to go install vista over one of those installations, but apparently the one i selected was the partition with all the boot info on it.. so now vista works fine but when i try to boot from my other xp partition, it cant find ntldr. im not quite sure how to fix this. i tried copying ntdlr from my xpcd to xp parition but it still cant find it. and i dont want to do all that fixboot stuff on the xpcd b/c last time i did it, xp and vista would give me errors like crazy about my hdd partitions being messed up.

well what i did was copied the needed boot files from my xpcd to the xp parition. but this is the error i get:

invalid boot.ini file

booting from c:\windows

ntdetect failed

The trick is to copy ntldr and ntdect.com to the boot partition (ie vista), into the \boot directory, ie c:\boot, as viewed from vista.

you tried this and it worked? right now it detects the files but says they are invalid. and when i had vista + xp working before all the files were just on the main directory of the xp partition.

its not the vista boot that needs to be fixed... i just did the fixboot and it worked for my xp, but now my vista is screwed, so i just deleted it. i just dont have a need for vista till i have an 8900gt and dx10 games are out.
