I'm not sure if I'm wording this properly so please bear with me. I'm trying to install Windows XP and I need to load up a storage driver before I can install Windows. So at the screen, it ask me to press "F6" and I did, but then, it can't seem to detect my USB memory stick. I just placed the drivers into the root directory of the USB stick. Am I doing this properly or I need to format the USB memory stick to emulate floppy mode? Thanks!

The Windows XP installer is a little backward on this. It only supports floppies and slipstreamed drivers. If you don't have the former, try getting nLite and doing the latter. Slipstream your drivers onto a new install disc, set up your Windows config while you're at it, and bingo.

Holy crap, the instructions seems rather complicated. Are there any easier methods or a program that will simplify things?

It doesn't work! I get an error as I enter that command saying it can't locate the file even though I placed it in the right directory.

what file cant it find? if your talking about mkbt then make sure ur running a prompt in its folder

How do I do that? When I first did it, I went to command prompt from the start menu.

type into the command prompt:

cd /d c:/mkbtdir

mkbtdir is whater the path is to the directory with mkbt in it

once this is done, just type in the command on that website

I just did that and it didn't work. This is all that the screen shows:

* Expert mode (-x)

* Warning different filesystem ID

Size=0bytes OEM="<=_[sIHC" VolLabel="NO NAME" FileSys="FAT16"

Now that I'm thinking, is all of this really necessary? I just want to be able to store SATA drivers on my USB stick and get the "F6" function to detect the SATA drivers on the USB stick.

Well, after that screen, there are still no files on my flash drive.

just copy over your files and see if you can boot off of it
