IE Broken and automatic updates

I'm currently running a non-IE7 setup but IE is broken (tries to "download" every page, half of inet options cpl is gone), causing havoc with registering 3DSMax among other things.

I'm just trying to figure out what the cause is, I now hover over "Automatic Updates" and see that it's needed for IE7.

In what way as I protest having Automatic updates on my system, I prefer to download updates when I have the time and prefer packages like autopatcher. That and it's just more crap running inthe background I don't need. So could this NOW be killing IE? Here's my old LAST SESSION.INI:

Sorry to bump as it seems no-one yet has an answer, well I'm gonna push on regardless and make another disc, see if I can get IE working without AU.

I might aswell update as no-one is willing to help, I've nailed it downt o hotfixes, but which one is a problem, it takes 30-45 mins to make a new nlite compilation and install it in vmware.

This is my limit, I've needed my PC to do Uni assignments for the past 2-3 days, I might give up and just use the hotfixes from an older a release which don't break IE.

At least I know a hotfix is breaking something, you can work from there... here's a copy of a hotfixes section from a release that worked:

Probably some of them is intended for IE6 and it overwrites reg entries or even some files of the IE7 if it was integrated before them.

There is 2 ways to solve this:

- integrate ie7 after all those hotfixes but make sure that if you do integrate some IE7 specific hotfixes to move them after IE7

- check which hotfixes are for ie6 and remove them, no need for them any more (recommended in combination with above, but if you don't have time and want to check this then you can start with number 1)
