adog Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi, Is it possible to connect a network of 192.168.1.0 to a network of 192.168.2.0? If so could one be on a switch with all the hosts having static IP's and the other have a router? Or would both networks need to have routers? Thanks!
luke.mccormick Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 unless your router supports multiple IP lan addresses you need two routers.
cluberti Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 If both are on different LAN segments (and I'm assuming they are both /24 and on differing segments), you need a router, or switches that can do static routing, to pass traffic between the two. Some higher-end switches can do basic VLAN routing if the networks are on differing VLANs on the same switch.
