BUG: Operations on XPx64 pro corp = no Program files installed

PROGRESS UPDATE: I narrowed it down to either removing system restore, the useless documents directory, SFC disabling, or the unsigned themes support.

This is actually an old bug, I remember having it since v1.2 or even earlier... I just never found out what it was exactly that did it before so i just gave up on doing ANYTHING AT ALL to my xp64 and simply used the unattented install option only to get a working copy of windows... I think I narrowed it down though:

When using windows XPx64 pro corp:

XP64 (No programs installed).ini causes no programs to be installed (no internet explorer, no media player, nothing, the computer is unusable)

XP64 (CRC-02).ini also does not work and it does NOT recompress the cabs even though its set to max compression! Or rather, max compression claims to be set on by default and its on the default setting... I am gonna run a few more tests to see whats going on... but apperently its not cab merging.

Narrowing this down... I canceled the tweaks and removed components and this time IT WORKED.. Since I doubt that removing system restore or the useless documents did that I am going to have to assume it was the SFC disabling or the unsigned themes support. I cannot however perform further tests at the moment (since this was all on my roomate's computer and he is sick of me using nLite on it at the moment :P

This is the first time I see this topic and it seems interesting to me, going to try your preset tonight and post my findings.

thanks... This happened to me on two computers, but using different images. The older one was at about v1.2 and I don't remember my preset. Those presets are all from v1.3 RC2 and I this time I kept those releases. If you need further info from me I will be glad to assist.

Bad news, I tried your XP64 (No programs installed).ini preset and it worked just fine :\

I do believe you and I see you have done some testing but it's something else in conjuction with this preset.

It could be the dredded corrupted CAB issues. Check your driver.cab and sp1.cab for corruption, for example you can use Winrar - Test option.

But you say that on the other image it happens as well...maybe I need to run modifications under x64 like you did, I did it under xp sp2?

drivers.cab and drivers32.cab had no errors.

but I could not find a SP1.cab (I searched the CD for SP1.cab)...

This could mean we found our problem... the question is, how come my SP1 winxp64 does not have an SP1.cab...

Could it be whomever integrated it used the merge cabs option (I think it might have actually been me...)

Would that cause the expected problem? (maybe nlite creates an empty SP1.cab and puts nothing in it cause it doesn't find the old SP1...)

No SP1.cab in the original CD either, it's because x64 was shipped with sp1 in it and then it's already merged...they probably used nLite ;) ... NOT

Seriously until someone confirms and we see what is common with at least 2 reports in the situations like this when I try and it works there is nothing I can do.

well... maybe this will help, as a source I am using a disk image, the XiSO release of XP64, not an actual CD. Maybe there is something wrong with the way they did things... I know releases like that tend to have more hotfixes integrated into them as well as service packs...
