prx984 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 A teacher at my school has asked me if I knew anyway to block maple story from her computer because her kids are constantly playing it and not doing their school work.Question is, how would I go about blocking this? She said her computer is connected to the internet through a wireless routere with a broadband modem connection. I know how block ports and domains, so I just need to know the port numbers or anything else I'd need to do to block this game.Anyone got any ideas?PS: I'd be interested in knowing for my own use because my brother constantly plays this game too without doing things that he's told. He often won't even come down for dinner any more
gamehead200 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 1. Uninstall it.2. Delete the installer.3. Block the download site using the HOSTS file or a domain blocking tool/filter.4. Make her account limited.5. Block the ports listed on this page: http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/arch...ic/32407-1.htmlThose might not be all the ports. I did an additional search and it came up with ports such as 8484, 8485, 8585, etc... but I'm not 100% sure... You could always run "netstat -an" (without the quotes) to find what port it is running under.
prx984 Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 Blocking port 8484 - 8585 did the trick. Thanks gamehead
gamehead200 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Haha, sweet. I would still try narrowing down the exact port that way you don't have any problems with any other applications since you're blocking an entire range. Like I said before, try using "netstat -an".Post 5800.
prx984 Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 I'll try netstat sometime next week when my brother isn't at home so I can get access to his computer He'll never let me on when he's home
