ilocos Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Hi guys,I just recently installed a new Motherboard with processor, because my previous motherboard stopped working.I plugged everything back in and booted the computer and arrived at a blue screen.. due to the fact of all the drivers being installed for the old motherboard.. ok no problem..I tried to repair my windows installation using the repair method, didn't work,, still got the blue screen.. so i went ahead and installed windows in a different folder C:\windows2 instaed of the original C:\windows.. booted up fine installed all my drivers.. Comp running like a champ.. until..I navigated over to my G:\ partition and noticed that several of my folders containing large important amounts of data are inaccessible.. XP is not recognizing them as folders (They do not have the folder icon.. they behave just like a file without a program associated with it..) and when i double click them it opens up a dialog box asking me to chose a program to open the file.. but its not a file its a folder.. i tried choosing explorer.exe but it just asks me where i want to download it.. The only common factor i can think of in these few folders is the fact that they all contain large amounts of data.. 1 folder contained mp3's over 10GB worth.. one folder contained exe iso rar zip its was over 10GB as well.. the other folder was a game: EA Games Need for speed carbon i think it was like 4 or 5GB..When i look at the properties of the folders now they are just 32kbs but the space is still being used up on my hard drive.. I have other files and folders on the G:\ Partition that are not affected..I have: C:\ D:\ E:\ F:\ G:\ partitions on my 2 hard drives.. C:\ being on the 1st Hard Drive.. the rest of the partitions are on the 2nd Hard Drive.. only G:\ was affected.. i have similar amounts of data on the other partitions but they function fine..Any idea what the problem might be? suggestions pls? Any way i can access those rogue folders?thnx..
ilocos Posted January 17, 2007 Author Posted January 17, 2007 i think scandisk renamed them all to .chk files.. i found 3 folders found.000 found.001 found.002 that are around the same sizes as the folders that were lost.. how to recover .chk files? crap this sux!
Ponch Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Is it possible that you reinstalled XP without SP1 and that your disk is bigger than 137Gig ? (just a shot in the dark, I never played with any HDD bigger than 80Gig.)
