BradBo Posted September 25, 2003 Posted September 25, 2003 I did a partial install of my XP and now Iget the b/w daul boot screen. How do I remove it?Brad
b0r3d Posted September 25, 2003 Posted September 25, 2003 First right click on my computer --> propertiesclick the advanced tabUnder the Startup and Recovery sub heading, click settingsUnder System Startup, click EditUnder the [Operating Systems] tag, is where your boot selection screen is.Each line is for a different OSSimply delete all of them, except the first one which looks like thismulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetectSave the file and you're done!
BradBo Posted September 29, 2003 Author Posted September 29, 2003 Thanks it worked great. The only strange thing now is if I re boot I get another b/w screen that says,"invalid boot ini fileboot fromc:\windows"Then it goes ahead and boots just fine.Brad
grijzeduif Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Brad, just check your boot.ini file on your c:I must be like this[boot loader]timeout=3default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetectYou can edit the file with Notepad if you wantMaybe you can set the timeout to 0 or 1
b0r3d Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Yep. Thats what i do. Set the timeout to 3 seconds. That way there is enough time if i want to change o/s's, otherwise it doesnt delay my normal boot up for very long.
xper Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Boot with windows boot diskette and type in command prompt:fdisk /mbrto clean your PC mbr (master boot record)Above solutions will work but your mbr is not cleaned up.
