Some people have been having problems installing VS6 onto their nlited Windows XP machines. I think Ive found the answer. The old installer fails if you disable the creation of 8.3 filenames in ntfs. And it's not just old installers that do not work properly. It seems that even current software using any WISE installer will install properly but refuse to uninstall if you do not have 8.3 filenames. Therefore I would recommend that 8.3 filenames should not be disabled for anyone at all.
