zeptin Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I have been using nLite for quite some time, but recently (after a reinstallation, I suppose) I have started tonotice some error messages and appparent 'problems' while using XP. The most repoducible example I canthink of is when I close the folder I store my mp3s in. I get this error message approximately 50% of thetime: (or, after I've browsed through it a bit. I'm afraid I'm not too sure)Window title-> 'Proxy Desktop: Explorer.EXE - Application Error'Error message -> 'The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application atlocation 0x7c812a5b'I don't suppose it's the fact that it's a rather big folder with many subdirectories that's causing this problem, but I have a suspicion it's one of the RyanVM addons (or the actual update pack itself) that may be causingthese strange errors. However, I do not have the time to check each addon individually, so I was wonderingif anyone else has experienced similar symptoms? I found a post from someone who got the same errorcode, roughly, but they didn't seem to have found the solution. While writing this, I experimented a bit and discovered it happens with my games folder as well, also ratherlarge but with far fewer subdirectories. This isn't a crippling problem for me, but it looks ugly. Cleancomputers are happy computers As an additional note, when shutting down the computer it seems to alsohang explorer.exe, which has to be manually 'End now'-ed.I use nLite to integrate these addons because I have had insurmountable hassles mixing nLite with the actual integrator, so I apologise if this post shouldn't be here at all.
MGadAllah Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Welcome to MSFN mate I have a suspicion it's one of the RyanVM addons (or the actual update pack itself) that may be causing these strange errors.if this post shouldn't be here at all.If you are talking about latest Ryan pack, I do not think that it could be the reason because I've tested it many times (I did integrated it only using nLite) without any errors at all. it could be on of the other add-ons ... but when did it start to happen? Which version you are using? But let's think in another direction...I'd like to suggest you a thing that may help... Integrating Ryan pack is more important rather then programs add on, because programs can be installed with switches or any other way while Ryan pack is not.So...you may try Ryan pack only with nLite, and install all your programs with switches using different methods like WPI, or normal .cmd file... and do not worry about if all programs can be installed with switches or not .. because if application has no switch (I doubt) there are many alternatives for most applications, i.e. using Real Alternative instead of RealPlayer....etcIn order to make a good CD, you have to test and retest many times in VMware or any other virtual machine.Hope this help !!
zeptin Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 (edited) Thank you for your reply and kind welcome, MGadAllahI have done countless tests of my CD over the months I've assembled all the additions and registrymodifications etc.But there's always the possibility I missed something. And who keeps a 60gb mp3 folder on their VM totest closing folders with? ;oSince so many people use the RVM pack, I would also assume it's not that which is causing the problem.Judging by the specific program giving the message (namely, the Explorer shell) would I be justified inthinking it's a shell extension addon that could be causing the problem? I don't use a lot of those, though...I'll try your suggestion about using the pack on its own, but I've experienced several disturbing differencesbetween an installation on a VM and on my actual computer (not just the drivers either )EDIT: I always use the latest version of everything. I'm meticulous and borderline obsessive about this Edited December 16, 2006 by zeptin
MGadAllah Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Did you tweaked any thing using nLite, I mean used the tweaks or option screens in nLite. Also try to reduce your mp3 folder to multiple folders by type or by category (I doubt that it could be the reason).did you test it while it is Ryan pack only beeing integrated?try to integrate ryan pack only and see what will happen?
zeptin Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 I modify quite a few things, such as the TCP connection limit (on that note, is there any point going beyond100? I use bittorrent programs and I have a rather slow connection, so I want it to be optimal) and aplethora of registry edits (a few of my own, and lots within nLite)I'm building a new image to try test in VMWare, but I've NEVER seen that error within a VM. Could be that Inever test it thoroughly enough, but hey...If anyone could tell me an easy and preferably fast way to get the genres for a couple hundred bands atonce I'd be grateful, although it probably won't get rid of the error.
Kiki Burgh Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 hi zeptin! kindly post your Last_Session.ini ... i think too it could be some addons that affects the Explorer shell ... but it could be something else as well ...

And 'DupeFiles' & 'CabMerge' under options were onlychanged for this latest install, so they aren't the culprit.I should probably cut down on the number of addons But they're so useful...
Win-Minion Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Hey zeptinI too have experienced the Windows Explorer "0x0eedfade" "run time error 217" and have been able to fix it. Before I figured out the solution I scoured the web for answers but nothing out there solved my problem. The most common cause of this error was either by a virus or a bug in IE7. So before you try my suggestion you might want to verify whether or not you fall under these two categories. My problem occurred under 2 circumstances on two different Windows XP machines. The 1st incident happened after I deleted some of the program folders that XDesk (a virtual desktop program) uses. To fix this I used an install of XDesk from another machine and manually copied the missing folders back into the XDesk directory. The 2nd incident happened when I deleted an application folder under my Current User's Start Menu. Afterwards I constantly got the "0x0eedfade" error. When I restored the deleted folder this problem disappeared. Afterwards, I uninstalled the program that caused this, to avoid any unwanted complications from cropping up in the future.Given these two examples I think the error occurs when you move/delete a file or folder that a currently installed and/or running application uses. My suggestion would be to uninstall any applications you installed just before the error occurred.I should also note that I only got this error when I deleted or moved a file/folder for two relatively obscure applications, and have not experienced this problem with other more popular programs like Firefox, Winamp, IrfanView, EditPad Lite, etc.Goodluck!
