What else can i safely remove?

Recommended Posts

Posted

It's windows 2000 with USP 5.1 and i'll be using this computer for gaming, surfing and mp3/movies.

I will be using firefox/thunderbird for surfing and email, is it safe to remove IE? can i still update somehow?

Is OpenGL required for the newest games?

Please give me suggestions on what i can safely remove, i'd like this to be as small as possible.

Do NOT remove OpenGL, this will create you a lot of problems.

Network:

IP Conferencing - remove

Map Network Drives - remove

MSMail - remove

NWLink IPX - remove if you don't use the IPX protocol for your LAN

Tapi - remove

Operation System Options:

Command Line Tools - remove and set in the save box only: ipconfig.exe, netstat.exe, ping.exe

Esent97 - remove

Extra Fonts - remove

Format Drive support - remove

OS2 - remove

Posix - remove

Services:

Distributed Transaction - remove

MSMQ - remove

Performance Logs - remove

Secondary Logon - remove

TCP/IP NetBios helper - remove

Just to name a few

I would keep application compatibility and 16 bit support.

You either have removed some essential components or they are not available on Win2000
