dscl Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hey folks allow me to first apologize for my ignorance, but I am relatively new to world of Windows Server having spent the majority of my IT Career as a programmer and then later a Unix/OS X Sys Admin.I'm going to be connecting a XServe RAID to a Windows Server 2003 box via a QLogic SANbox FC SW so that one 2TB RAID 5 LUN is viewable to the Windows Box.After this my ultimate goal is to map 3 drives/shares from the server to the nodes. So my questions are this.. Can I now take my, at this point unformatted volume, and partition it into 3 drives and share those out to the nodes? OR Can I create one partition and 3 folders sharing those folders out as mapped drives to the clients? (Essentially trying to not have to limit my partition sizes as they may grow/shrink at different rates)Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to provide some insight!
chilifrei64 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I would recommend doing 1 partition with different folders and shares.. that way you dont need to worry about running out of space on 1 partition.
allen2 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Also sharing the root of drives isn't very secure and not recommended.
jftuga Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) You may also need a hotfix from Microsoft ...For example, the QLE2460 adapter:64bit Windows:http://support.qlogic.com/support/os_detai...936&osid=6432bit Windows:http://support.qlogic.com/support/os_detai...934&osid=85Other QLogic adapters may need the hotfix too.-John Edited October 26, 2006 by jftuga
