chsyralis Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 When I try to install the windows malicious software removal tool it causes my hard drive to shut down (and re-start). If anybody has info on this problem, I'd appreciate it. I don't want or need the removal tool, and have been getting along fine without it; however, I cannot install internet explorer 7 as it comes bundled with the removal tool. Is there any way around this?
N1K Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Try to install adaware or some other spy/ad cleaning tool..
chsyralis Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks N1K, but I think you may have misunderstood me. I don't need any more ad removal programs (I have adaware, etc). The problem concerns the automatic inclusion of the Windows malicious software removal tool with Internet Explorer 7. I know that it is the removal tool that's causing the hard drive to shut down and re-start, because when it first came out as a separate Windows update the same thing occurred. I would like IE7 but can't seem to find it without the removal tool included.

LLXX Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Just the hard drive, or the machine reboots? You might want to disabled "Restart automatically on error" option since that might be a BSOD.
TravisO Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 (edited) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_DeathThe Blue Screen of Death (sometimes called "bluescreen", "stop error" or just abbreviated as "BSoD") is a popular name for the screen displayed by Microsoft's Windows operating system when it cannot recover from, or is in danger of being unable to recover from, a system error.-----------------I'd also like to add, that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is not a required part of IE7's install, there's a very obvious checkbox right near the beginning of the install to "check for updates and run Malicious Software removal tool". Just uncheck it! Edited October 21, 2006 by travisowens
