malicious software removal tool causes hard drive shutdown

When I try to install the windows malicious software removal tool it causes my hard drive to shut down (and re-start). If anybody has info on this problem, I'd appreciate it. I don't want or need the removal tool, and have been getting along fine without it; however, I cannot install internet explorer 7 as it comes bundled with the removal tool. Is there any way around this?

Try to install adaware or some other spy/ad cleaning tool..

Thanks N1K, but I think you may have misunderstood me. I don't need any more ad removal programs (I have adaware, etc). The problem concerns the automatic inclusion of the Windows malicious software removal tool with Internet Explorer 7. I know that it is the removal tool that's causing the hard drive to shut down and re-start, because when it first came out as a separate Windows update the same thing occurred. I would like IE7 but can't seem to find it without the removal tool included.

Since I never heard of this problem, I'd suggest that you contact Microsoft..

Just the hard drive, or the machine reboots?

You might want to disabled "Restart automatically on error" option since that might be a BSOD.

I'd also like to add, that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is not a required part of IE7's install, there's a very obvious checkbox right near the beginning of the install to "check for updates and run Malicious Software removal tool". Just uncheck it!
