Manually Adding Startup File to System Configuartion Utility

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to manually add a .exe file to the "Startup" tab of the System Configuration Utility?

First, I want to clarify that I am not asking how to place a check mark in the box located next to the file name in the "Startup" tab. (Though I'm a novice, even I know how to do that.)

The file I would like to add to the "Startup" tab is not currently listed as one of the options. If it was, I would simply place the check mark next to it to enable it.

Can anyone tell me how I can add a .exe file to the "Startup" tab, so I can then place a check mark next to the file to enable it to automatically start when Windows loads.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There're several ways to do it.

1. Manually add the shortcut to your Startup folder.

2. Manually add the shortcut to the All Users Startup folder.

3. Manually add the path to this reg key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

4. Manually add the path to this reg key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Duh, that's not a user function.

That happens when you "Install" a program into windows.

Winders handles it!

Now MS in it's infinite wisdom did provide a way for you to start a program all by yourself.

It's called the "Startup" folder.

You'll find it in your "Program" folder.

Just make a shortcut to your .exe file and put that shortcut in your "Startup" folder and sure nuff,

every time winders starts, your program will start too.

I do it all the time.

That's the Readers Digest condensed version. If you need step by step assistance, c'mon back.

Cheers!
