No Raid on Media Center 2005

Hi guys,

My rig:

Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (4.84 RAID BIOS)

JBOD IDE Array on Nforce Controller.

1 x 300GB Maxtor SATA

1 x 400GB WD Caviar SATA

I've created a Windows Media Center 2005 DVD using Nlite, and I've attempted to slipstream the RAID drivers directly into it. This appears to be working somewhat, as the JBOD array is detected during the first initial Windows setup, and I could select it to install to. I don't actually want Windows installed onto that JBOD array, so I use the SATA drive as the installation one.

I'm using the 6.85 nforce release, and I've added both the SATARAID and SATA_IDE folder to the drivers. Once booted and installed, I see one drive which prompts me to format it. Within drive management, I can see other drivers, but not as one array.

As I'm using IDE, do I need to use the legacy folder instead? What the hell is the legacy folder for anyway?

Put simply, I just cannot get this to work AT ALL with RAID. Even if I install cleanly without RAID drivers, if I run the latest nforce package, it doesn't install my RAID for me at all.

Any ideas?

best practice for raid is to use two (or more) of the same model hard drive, and set it up via hardware raid -there'll be a button you can press on the sata detection screen (before windows setup) to go into the raid setup

software raid is not as good as hardware raid

Hi,

It is setup as hardware RAID, using the Nvidia Raid controller as specified in my original post.

It's just using JBOD.

Thanks for your answer.

Sorry, what do you mean specify both of them?

I go to Integrate Drivers, choose Single Driver, then pick the top .INF file. I choose text-mode (is this ok?) and then try and add the second one, and I get the following error:

"This driver is already queued for integration <path to driver>"

It won't let me add both.
