Link accounts to .pst data files

I currently use Thunderbird but am migrating to Outlook 2003 for the groupware features. I have multiple email accounts setup and managed within Thunderbird in this manner:

outlookfo5.th.png

Notice that each account has its own respective inbox, outbox, sent items, etc. I want to set Outlook up in the same manner by having the different accounts linked/associated to its own .pst file.

Googling has revealed two main methods:

1) Use the rules wizard to sort incoming mail from multiple accounts into different folders

2) Use separate Outlook profiles

Neither of these really meet my goal. The rules wizard method isn't robust enough (no separate outbox, trash, etc.) and the Outlook profiles method would, I believe, require closing/opening Outlook to check each account instead of just leaving the application open.

I did see one post on the net that said "there is an option" to do what I want, but it didn't explain how to do so.

Unfortunately those are the only 2 ways you can do it. Outlook only supports 1 delivery location. I would recommend using the rules wizard. This is what I do for my accounts. This can be accomplished quite simply.

You need to create a rule for each account, so 3 in your case. Create a rule for each stating if you get email sent to (youremail1@yahoo.com) move to pst1.

Do this for each account.

There really isnt anything wrong with doing it this way. "IF" outlook did this natively, it would process it in a much similar fashion, except you are telling it what to do other than outlook just doing it. And I would say the rules are robust enough to do what you want it to do. It would not be hard, only a couple of rules for each to sort sent items, trash, inbox.

With this being said.. This is coming from a person who probably uses outlook rules for more than they are supposed to do and constantly pushes rules to their limits.

..... sorry it took so long to respond.. :-)

I feared as much. Using rules is easy enough, just a bit of a pain when compared to Thunderbird's very elegant solution. Too bad that T-bird doesn't have the groupware functionality, and Evolution is just a PITA.

Thanks for weighing in. You've saved my bacon (or at least some of my *time*) again!
