canadianfigor Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 (edited) Recently my Windows XP has been stalling on cold boot. I would get to the loading screen with the XP logo and my computer's busy light will just go off. It will stay on the loading screen until I hit the reset button, at which point I get the F8 menu and it then boots normally. Any ideas? Edited October 1, 2006 by canadianfigor
dirtwarrior Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 One option but it wont address your problem is dont turn it off. But it sounds like xp is corrupt and you might reinstall it.
canadianfigor Posted October 1, 2006 Author Posted October 1, 2006 I thought it would not boot at all if corrupt. Anyways I am looking for some alternatives to reinstalling - that is my last resort.
dirtwarrior Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 You could always do a repair install, you wont loose any data then. Or use system restore and roll back to before you had the problem.
T D Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I had this problem too and system restore didn't work. The recovery console made my windows really slow, so I just backed up all my files ad formatted. It solved the problem at any rate.
