Hi people,

Im having a problem installing a fresh copy of windows XP. At the beginning of the installation once all the drivers have been installed it says "windows is starting up" (just before the screen where it asks if you want to repair or install a new copy of windows) and just freezes.

Any help would be great,

Cheers

Hello thisispastrami,

Try replacing the Memory chip with the another one.

and also make sure that the installation CD is ok and not damaged, also try with another Setup CD to confirm.

I had similar problem on one of my clients machine and I had tried so many troubleshooting but in the last it worked after replacing the SMPS... so can't say what could be the cause in your case...

So I suggest you to replace one componant at a time and see whether it helps or not and if not then try changing other component.....

Yep, but EVERY PS (Power Supply) built for Desktop PC's in the last, say, 20 years has been a Switching Mode one, so the acronym is a bit redundant....

:P
