Vista RC1 will not load some websites

Greetings

I am having some problems with some websites after I installed Vista RC1. The following websites load with no problems in the Windows XP Pro installation I have and on the same three browsers I tried it on. But on Vista, the pages load only the top navigation bar or just a part of the website, really slowly and then hang without loading the rest.

http://bink.nu

http://channel9.msdn.com/

http://start.com

http://windowsmarketplace.com

There are others. I have tried to load them in Firefox 2, Opera 9 and IE 7 and I get the same result. I was thinking that it had something to do with the Java, Shockwave or Flash plug ins, but I was able to load other websites in all three browsers that use them, and I have installed the latest version of each. So, that does not seems to be the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Sal,

for all these pages that don't load, have you been able to ping them? does the DNS resolve correctly? if not can you ping the IP address of the website instead? an option to check is turning of IPv6, some providers are not using this yet and it can play havoc with a DNS resolution.

Hello fizban2

I found this post in a blog showing a solution to the same problem I have, but my Network Adapter does not presents me with an TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4) option to disable. It does not offers one for IPv6 either.

I bought a new Ethernet Card yesterday, much better than the integrated one I have, that supports up to 1gigabit and I still have the same problem.

I will try to ping the addresses once I finish downloading something. Will let you know how it goes.

salival, you tried this:

Log into your router and write down the ISP's DNS servers it uses. (or find out what are DNS of your ISP))

Open up "Network and Sharing Center".

Press "Manage network connections" to the left.

Go into properties of the network connection you are using.

Double click TCP/IP settings (IPv4).

Check the "Use the following DNS server addresses:"

Type in the IP numbers you got from your router and press OK.

I tried that, but it did not work.

Just ran into the same problem with MY.Yahoo and AOL mail. Went to Tools - Internet Options - Security. Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode". Sites came up for me.

I did that and I still have the same problem. Remember im using Firefox, Opera and IE 7 to test the sites and I get the same problem with the same sites in all three browsers.

I found someone who said in another forum:

"I was able to reolve the issue by disabling TCP Checksum Offload for ip4 and

ip 6 as well as disabling UDP Checksum Offload in ip4 and ip 6."

This is in the device managers, under Network Adapters. You expand it, right click on your Ethernet card and click Properties. Then you go to thea advanced tab. The issue I have is that mine does not presents any ip4 or ip6 checksum in the list to disable.

Its a problem with some NIC card drivers. The IPV4 Checksum Offload thing was only a solution for the Marvell NIC's. The behavior is still exhibited by some other NIC card drivers also who do not expose the IPV4 Checksum Offload (or comparable - what ever the card manufacture calls it) setting so you can change it. It also, some think, might be related to DNS in some odd way.

Sometimes changing a system or browser setting somewhere will kick-start it and make things work right again, which is why when someone changed their Protected Mode settings it started working again. It will be fixed by RTM.

Most people who have changed their NIC drivers to the WinXP drivers don't have the problem any longer. So give the winXP drivers a shot and see what happens. I'd recommend that you turn off UAC while you change the drivers and then turn UAC back on.

Thanks for the info. I just downloaded the XP Drivers for my Ethernet card, disabled UAC, restarted and installed the drivers, restarted again and it still does not works. I activated UAC and restarted and then tried, still will not work.

I guess im out of luck.
