jimbo385 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Hi,I wonder if anyone can help me. I have an XP system running Office 2003. The hard disk has failed and I can no longer boot into XP. I can however, remove the SATA drive, place it in a USB caddy and try and access it via USB on my laptop. The question I have is;Can I retrieve Emails, Contact & Calendar details from this hard disk via USB without Outlook? Is there a utility that I can use to get these details? On the hard disk, I have 2 users that have email access; myself and my wife. I would like to extract the above for each of us.Many thanks.
markajm Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 your emails live in the following location:C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ostthen you can try this: (found on the net - no guarantees)1. Backup ost file(s) 2. Rename outlook.ost to outlook.pst 3. Use scanpst.exe from Outlook 2002 (in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033) to repair outlook.pst 4. Rename outlook.pst back to outlook.ost 5. Run OST2PST which will then convert the file to outlook.pst 6. Outlook can then open the outlook.pst file Outlook 2003 has scanpst.exe and scanost.exe in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAIP\1033 whick you could also try
jimbo385 Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Cheers mate.I will give that a try.Now that I have so much free time (PC being dead), I have been given lots of Hubby chores. So it may be a while when I can get some free time to try these out.Do you by any chance know where Contacts & Calendar items live?
nitroshift Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 In exactly the same file: outlook.pst. And I found that you can copy the outlook.pst file off the dead hard-drive and paste it to the new installed drive provided that you have installed outlook and started it once.
jimbo385 Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Fantastic. Thanks Nitroshift.Do you mean outlook.ost or outlook .pst?I am checking my laptop and I can only find the .ost file.Another question though, will the .ost or .pst file have all the attachments? When I do a Save as of an attachment, I get a "Local Settings\Temposary Internet Files\OLK3E" location. When I try and view that directory, I can not find it!
