Something weird has happened.

All of a sudden, if I've got my internet browser (Firefox) open and I hover my mouse over the system tray clock, the little info box that pops up and displays the date pops up behind the browser window.

It's the same with other windows that I may have open at the same time.

I can't figure out what's going on.

Any ideas?

Also, if I open Internet Explorer (which isn't very often, I have to say), it fills the entire screen and I can't even see the taskbar or system tray.

Even resizing the IE window doesn't help.

Again, any pointers would help, because it's got me stumped.

Video driver problem? Update to latest & greatest.

IE in full screen mode? Press F11 to switch on/off.

Ensure the following is checked (right-click taskbar, select Properties).

It also happens sometimes even despite the above setting, in the case recommended it to restart Explorer.exe.

A bit more research revealed that the disappearing 'tooltips', as they're apparently called, is an ongoing bug with XP and ME, which Microsoft continually ignores.

LLXX, I tried the restarting explorer.exe thing last night and it seemed to work, but I've also followed your tip about keeping the Taskbar on top of other windows, so I'll see what happens.

Ctrl-X, I don't know whether I want to mess about with video drivers etc because, frankly, I don't know what I'm doing in that regard (besides, my computer's still only about six months old).

And I tried the F11 thing, but found that the best way to get around this issue was to resize the windows and not hit that Maximise button (the middle one in the top right corner).

So if that works (which it does) I'll just use that, I think.
