Ever tried Winsock or something similar?

I was thinking it might be possible to replace win networking with some kind of stand-alone application for users

who want just basic internet connectivity.

without winsock (API's) pretty much everything in Windows networking stops working at all, then u r running a very basic internet connectivity....

If that's all you need, consider removing all networking components except the TCP/IP protocol.
