alfordsteven Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Hi, After two hours on the phone with Sony, I'm no closer to a solution. I have a Sony VAIO SZ laptop. Whenever I try to close the lid so the computer can hibernate, I get the error:SYSTEM HIBERNATION FAILED: The service "Print Spooler" is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Try stopping this service and try again. This means, of course, going to control panel, adminstrative tools, services, finding the print spooler, and turning it off, which is a bit more than simply closing the lid. I have an IBM T40 that does this with no problem. The people at Sony said it was an XP problem. Can anyone help? Thanks!SteveTitle edited - No caps in titles.--Zxian
allen2 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Perhaps there are still active printing jobs.
Takeshi Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Could be printer driver problem ...In the meantime, I suppose you can stop the service more quickly with a simple script on the desktop.Don't you just love factory laptops - you call them and they say it's Windows problem. Call MS and they say they don't support OEMs.
Ctrl-X Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 A faulty printer driver could cause all sorts of problems with the Print Spooler. I'd start by upgrading all printer drivers to the latest & greatest version.
