mentalindustrie Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hi guysI dont seem to be able to write to files that are on a drive seperate to the vista install if they were created before i installed vista (In XP).If I copy the file to the vista drive I can save any changes. but not if it is on a seperate drive.I get the following error"Can not create the ..... file.Make sure the path and filename or correct"Partitions are NTFS if that makes any difference.Drives on IDE channel and sata controllers have same issues.Motherboard Asus A8V Deluxe
mentalindustrie Posted September 5, 2006 Author Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) They not read only. Its any file on the whole hard drive.it works fine under xpI can read them fine just not write back to themI can create a new file on the other hard drives and that is writeable in both vista and xp. fizban2 Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 vista does not change permissions on files on secondary drives, you will have to take ownership of those files first then you wil be able to write to them

fizban2 Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Yes thanksit was the security tab needed fixing.any idea why this is not a default setting?Adds tomuch time to instal process?more of a security thing, like you said you upgraded from XP or installed to another partition, those files were already owned by another OS, vista recogonized this and choose not to overwrite the permissions for your XP install.
